Chalyela has advanced in her pregnancy, but she is forced to leave the castle yet again.
She returns to the town square to speak with the gossiper that she spoke with before.
“Your majesty! The people in the village are desperate for your help! I believe that even my children may be coming down with plague symptoms!”
“Aye, unfortunately the plague is spreading. Rest assured that I am doing all I can!”
Another villager approaches her. “So it is true your majesty?”
“Aye, the plague has indeed returned!” Chalyela confirms.
“Oh no! I must run home and tell my family!” The villager says; his voice full of alarm.
Chalyela is pleased that Gavin’s plan is working so well. The town’s square is abuzz with news of plague.
At the clinic Gavin speaks with Rat Catcher Ferris. “So you believe that your mother-in-law has succumbed due to the plague?” Gavin asks, although he knows that it is not true. He is sure that Ferris’ mother-in-law has passed due to old age.
“It will be OK. I am sure that she is now with the Watcher,” Gavin says feeling bad because his plan is working too well.
“Be in good cheer. I shall find a cure for this plague soon,” Gavin says, not proud of his false assurances.
Jolene picks up on the fact that Gavin is feeling down about the untruths that he forced to tell. She walks over to him. “Our baby is moving,” she announces.
Gavin bends down and pretends to listen to his son or daughter.
“Did you hear that?” Jolene asks, following Gavin’s lead.
“Our baby says that he is very proud of his brilliant father. I feel the same way.”
Gavin is so pleased that Jolene is supportive of him. He pulls her in and kisses her on the lips.
“Surgeon Gavin!” Chalyela calls from the waiting room while Gavin and Jolene share their moment.
Jolene follows Gavin out of the examination room. Although she has no doubt that Gavin loves her more than anything, she cannot help but feel a tinge of jealousy every time she sees him with Chalyela.
“I just wanted to tell you that it is working!” Chalyela says.
“I know, unfortunately people are attributing the plague to even the most unrelated deaths.”
They both laugh uneasily. They still have not mastered being around each other without thinking of their brief romance.
“Well…I just wanted to thank you for your help,” Chalyela says avoiding Gavin’s eyes.
“I am glad that you have allowed me to help.”
“You may now begin healing the patients,” Chalyela says, giving Gavin permission to heal the patients affected with the minor illness.
Chalyela leaves the clinic with Gavin right behind her. She is exhausted and wants more than anything to get as much rest as possible before her baby is born.
Chalyela turns toward the castle, while Gavin turns toward the docks. “Good news! He announces to the first patient. I have found another miracle cure.”
Gavin gives her an injection to fight off the minor illness. Because she is not as sick as she believes she is, the vaccination works immediately.
“You are healed!” Gavin announces.
“I have witnessed yet another miracle!” The patient announces.
Again, Gavin feels bad that his patients believe his deception.
