My grandmother always said that everybody has a purpose and that everything happens for a reason.
Funny thing is, I didn’t discover my purpose until I moved to a strange little town called Moonlight Falls.
You see, I first saw him in a dream…
No, not exactly a dream, but a vision.
I didn’t know who he was or exactly what he looked like, but I knew that I was supposed to save him.
My family thought I was crazy when I told them that was the reason I was relocating.
It may in fact sound crazy to most, but I learned to trust my visions at a young age…way before I discovered my “other” talents.
It all started with just the daydreams…daytime visions that always came true, whether I wanted them to or not.
Here in Moonlight Falls, I found a place where I could use these visions to help others. I became a fortune teller.
I got my first glimpse of the strange secrets that this town held as I was leaving the fortune teller caravan on the day that I was hired. As I was heading toward my car, I passed three ghosts.
I headed back toward the caravan where an older lady stood.
“Excuse me ma’am…do you see…um, three ghosts behind me?”
The lady chuckled slightly, “You must be new to Moonlight Falls…chile you’re bound to see a lot more than ghosts before too long.”
“What? What do you mean?” I asked.
“First off…my name is Helen, Helen Hall. What I mean is…there are a whole of lot strange people that reside here,” Helen said offering me her hand.
“Really?” I said, totally forgetting to offer my name.
“Oh, yes. In fact, I sense that you have a touch of the occult within yourself…am I right?”
I was hesitant to give an answer. Where I’m from, people like myself are forced to hide their unusual ‘talents’, “Um…maybe?”
“It’s okay…you’ll fit right in here.”
“Well…most would consider me a witch, but I don’t like to use that label. It just sounds so, you know…creepy.”
Helen nodded her head as if she had already sensed what I was.
I continued, “Back home I had to practically go into hiding once I started having actual powers.”
“This town is full of people with unusual powers. Let’s see, we have plenty of witches, along with fairies and “other” creatures, but I’ll just let you figure the rest out for yourself.”
“I definitely don’t wannascare you away,” she continued.
I couldn’t imagine what could be so terrible that I’d be scared away.
I liked Helen. I could sense that there was more to her as well. “Are you a witch or a fortune teller?”
“Neither…believe it or not, I’m just a band manager”
“Oh, I’m sorry…I just thought-” I started.
Helen interrupted with a chuckle, “Not all of us here have special abilities. There are in fact a lot of plain regular folks.”
“Are they all as open and friendly to witches and the like as you are?”
Helen looked away as she answered. “Unfortunately, no. You have some who do not believe at all. In fact, they are so blinded by the supernatural, that they just plain don’t see it. A ghost could be smiling right in their face and they wouldn’t see it at all.”
“Well, it is nice to meet you,” I said, wondering how anyone could deny that the supernatural actually exists.
“Nice to meet you too, um– “Helen said, realizing that I never gave my name.
“Sorry about that…I’m Josephina Gates.”
