Not even two minutes passed before Robert rushed out the door after Elaina. I followed him out.
He didn’t have to go very far…
Elaina was sitting in the rocking chair on the porch as if she knew Robert would come looking for her.
Robert hesitated for a few moments as if he were trying to gather up what he was going to say. This was a new situation for him.
Robert walked over to her, “I’m sorry,” he said quietly.
When Elaina didn’t respond, he looked away and continued, “Look, I’m notorious for being a jerk sometimes…and closed minded. I’m sorry for calling you crazy.”
Elaina stood up, ”It’s okay.”
“No, it’s not and I’m not about to let you just walk out of my life. I was wrong and I don’t want you to go.”
“But…what about me…you know, being a vampire?” She asked.
Robert held his palms up toward her, “Well, at least I know why I never get to see you in the daylight.”
Elaina laughed, “Yeah…sorry about that.”
“So you’ll stay, right?”
“I guess so,” Elaina answered.
Elaina grabbed Robert’s hands, “I’ll never be able to explain why I didn’t tell you sooner. I guess I just didn’t think we’d become so close, so soon.”
“I didn’t either and it’s not like I’m the easiest person to discuss such a thing with. I wouldn’t have believed it no matter when you told me.”
As if she needed confirmation, Elaina whispered, “So you’re really okay with this?”
As if it were all the confirmation Elaina would need, Robert leaned over and kissed her.
“I guess that’s my answer,” Elaina said.
Robert pulled her closer with a sudden quick burst of energy. “I could further convince you if that what’s you need,” he said seductively.
Elaina was right where she wanted to be. Her gamble paid off. The only thing left was for her to convince him to allow himself to be turned.
Completely ignoring me, they rushed into the house. I knew where they were headed and I didn’t want to be anywhere near them right now.
I could just imagine the satisfied smirk on Elaina’s face as she followed Robert into his bedroom. I didn’t need to see it to feel it’s effects.
I’d noticed that my visions were fewer and farther between following my death, so it surprised me when I was hit by a particularly strong one that evening after Elaina and Robert left the porch.
What I saw shook me to my core…Elaina was going to succeed in her plan. I could see it as clear as day.
Robert was going to die.
I was not about to sit and watch it all unfold.
Being a ghost, I couldn’t do much to change the physical world around me…but being a witch, I had all the power in the world. I just needed a little luck.
