After coming home from school, Trent receives a surprise visit from Danielle…
Trent: Hey! Are you okay?
Danielle: Not really. Can we…uh, talk outside or something?
Trent has no idea what Danielle wants to talk about. Is she here to break off their friendship? He reluctantly follows her outside to find out.
Before giving Danielle a chance to speak, Trent cuts in…
Trent: Hey look Danielle…I’m sorry about my little sister getting all up in our business. I told her not to say anything to you!
Danielle: What? What are you talking about Trent? This has nothing to do with you!
Trent doesn’t hide his relief, but now he’s really curious.
Trent: What is it about?
Danielle: I think I want to run away Trent!
Trent: Huh…but… why?
Danielle: It’s my mom! I can’t take it anymore! I feel like I’m being punished for things I had nothing to do with. She’s overprotective because of stupid mistakes that she made when she was my age…but her life isn’t mine! I need to get out of here!
Trent: Have you tried talking to her?
Danielle: Talking? She doesn’t listen to anything I say. I mention the smallest thing and it becomes a life lesson. Trent, I’m serious… I think I’m going to run away.
Trent: You can’t run away by yourself!
Danielle: So you’ll come with me?
Trent: Uh-
Trent hesitates, which gives Danielle time to draw her own conclusion. Assuming that he intends to run away with her, she pulls him into a hug.
Danielle: Oh my God! Trent, I knew that you were the right person to talk to about this! So you’ll come with me?
Normally Trent would think about the consequences… like the fact that his dad is huge and would pummel him just for thinking about running away, but having Danielle so close to him…with her arms wrapped around him makes him feel a little lightheaded and woozy. Not thinking straight… he gives his answer.
Trent: Yeah, but give me some time to come up with a plan. I’ll call you later, okay?
Danielle is practically in tears because she is so grateful…
Danielle: Yeah… okay! I’ll wait for your call!
Inside the house, Kisha is studying with Haylee, one of KJ’s little sisters, and Greg sits at the table alone; excited that he’ll finally be celebrating becoming a teen tomorrow. He can’t wait to see what his parents have planned for him.
Trent hides out in the bathroom to plan his and Danielle’s escape while going through the pros and cons of running away. In the end, being alone with Danielle becomes the pro that momentarily seals his decision. He calls her up…
Trent: Meet me outside… I think I have a plan!
Only after Trent hangs up the phone does he come to his senses. He realizes that he has great parents and that it would break their hearts if he came up missing. He changes his mind and decides that he’ll try to let Danielle down easily.
Meanwhile…the sound of Greg’s amateur violin music serenades Ray as he works in his garden until it’s time for him and Mitzi to leave for work.
Trent is determined to tell Danielle that he’s changed his mind about running away… that is until he actually sees how sad she looks…
Trent: I know where we can go! My parents will be working late. We can leave tonight after my sister and brother go to sleep.
Danielle is happy to hear that Trent is still going away with her.
Kisha says goodbye to Haylee and Trent waits patiently for her and Greg to finally go to bed.
Ignoring the little voice in his conscience that tells him that he’s making a mistake… Trent makes sure that Greg and Kisha are asleep before changing clothes, packing, and calling Danielle to let her know that he’s ready to go…
Danielle and Trent arrive in Granite Falls…
Danielle: This is great! How did you know about this place?
Trent: My parents took me camping here once when I was little.
Danielle: So, is this the plan? Is this where we’ll be staying.
Trent: Just until we figure out what we want to do next.
Trent: Well, it’s getting late…we can sleep in those tents. You can have the big one.
Danielle: Okay
Trent: See you in the morning…oh and if you happen to see a bear…it’s probably just someone in a costume. Goodnight!
Trent gets inside the smaller tent leaving Danielle alone.
Danielle: *afraid* Did he just say – bear?!
Trent is already asleep when Danielle decides that there’s no way she’s sleeping in a big tent, out in the middle of the woods, alone.
Meanwhile, Mitzi comes home from work…not knowing that her teenage son has just run off with their next-door neighbor.
Tomorrow is going to be a loooong day for Mitzi and Ray!
