Trent and Danielle hike until they arrive at Granite Falls forest. There, Trent attempts to grill some of the fish that he caught earlier.
Afterward, Trent sees Danielle standing off to the side shivering…
Trent: Are you cold?
Danielle: A little…
Trent offers her a hug to warm her up.
Danielle: Thank you, Trent…I feel so well taken care of!
Trent: Let’s go over by the waterfall…I really need to talk to you.
Danielle: Okay *follows Trent to the waterfall* Is everything okay?
Trent: Yeah…it’s just that…you know we have school on Monday.
Danielle: Not if we stay here…
Trent: That’s the thing Danielle, I want to go home.
Danielle: Fine! Go!
Trent: You don’t understand…I want you to come back with me!
Danielle: No!
Trent: Really? That’s all you have to say…no?
Danielle: Well what do you want me to say? My family life isn’t as lovey-dovey as yours! My mom has a lot of issues.
Trent: We’ll be adults soon enough. You’d just have to endure a little while longer.
Danielle: I don’t have a reason to go back Trent.
Trent gently grabs Danielle’s hands…
Trent: Do it for me?
Danielle: If I go back, my mom’ll keep me as far away from you as possible.
Trent: We’ll see each other at school.
Danielle: You just don’t get it…
Trent: My parents are probably worried sick, but I refuse to leave you here alone. Let’s go back home…we’ll figure the rest out.
Trent can see that Danielle is about to come up with another reason on why she can’t return home. Before she gets a chance to, he surprises her by kissing her firmly on the lips.
Trent: Let’s go back home.
Danielle: *sighs* My mom will be so mad at me…
Trent: She’ll get over it…just text her and let her know you’re okay.
Danielle: Ugh…I’ll be grounded forever.
Trent: We both will, but there’s always school. They can’t keep us apart there.
Danielle: Okay…okay! I’ll go back home…but can we wait until tomorrow?
Trent: Only if you promise to text your mom tonight.
Danielle: I promise.
Trent and Danielle return to the campgrounds, where Trent finally returns his mother’s text…
Trent’s text: Sorry to worry you mom. I’m okay. I had to help a friend, be back tomorrow.
Mitzi’s text: Where the heck are you? Let me come get you!
Trent’s text: Don’t be mad mom… I promise I’m safe and will be back tomorrow.
Mitzi’s text: I was so scared. You could have called! And you missed your brother’s birthday! I thought something happened to you.
Trent’s text: I know mom…I’m sorry. I’ll see you soon…I promise!
Mitzi’s text: Tomorrow! First thing!
Trent’s text: Okay…
Mitzi’s text: I still want to come get you, but okay.
Trent finishes his texts and thinks about the fact that he’s in the woods, alone with a girl that he just shared his first kiss with. He knows that any of his friends would take full advantage of the situation and although he’s tempted…he knows it’s not the right thing to do. His parents would expect more from him. Danielle crawls into the little tent, but instead of sharing the tent with her…Trent crawls into the other tent.
After texting Trent back and forth a few times, Mitzi can finally go to bed feeling relieved…although she doubts that she’ll be able to sleep well until he’s home safe.
Now that he knows that Trent is safe, Greg stares at his brother’s empty bed; furious that his special day has been ruined for no reason. Greg can’t wait to tell his brother exactly what he thinks of him.
Ray returns home from work, where he received Mitzi’s text that Trent was okay. He feels bad that he doubted Mitzi’s concerns earlier. Who would have thought that his son had actually run away with a girl?
