Kisha has really gotten into the wellness skill. So much so, that she’s decided to go for a healthier option for her birthday cake; A Sugarfree Carob Coconut Cake.
Kisha stands back to admire her work before hurrying to clean up the mess she made before her mother sees it.
Mitzi has more than one reason to feel melancholy this morning. Not only is her youngest child becoming an adult, but she just learned that her best friend Beverly has passed away.
The candles are blown out and Kisha ages up. All three Wallace children are now adults. Kisha has gained the active trait.
Everyone takes a bite of Kisha’s cake and Kisha waits for their reaction.
Kisha: So…what do you think?
Gregory: Is this supposed to be cake?
Kisha: Yeah…what do you think? It’s just a healthier version.
Gregory: I miss dad’s cakes. He made real cakes.
Kisha: Shut up Greg! It’s a real cake. Mom, what do you think?
Mitzi: My mom always said, ‘if you can’t say something nice, keep your dang mouth shut!’ I plead the fifth.
Kisha: Come on ya’ll…it’s not that bad. I like it!
Kisha has some news for her mom but isn’t sure how to tell her.
Kisha: Uh mom…I’ve chosen what career I want to pursue.
Mitzi: Okay…what is it?
Kisha: Uh…I’m not sure you’re going to like it.
Mitzi: Just say it! Let me decide how I feel about it.
Kisha: Uh…I’m going to sign up to be a police officer.
Mitzi: *relieved* Girl…I thought you were going to say a stripper or something! Why all the drama to tell me that?
Kisha: Well, I know it can be a dangerous job. I just don’t want you to worry.
Mitzi: Then I won’t. I know you’ll be an incredible cop.
As Mitzi stands up, she realizes that she has lied to her daughter. She is in fact worried, but not over Kisha’s chosen profession. She’s worried because she knows that her time is near and that her children will be left to fend for themselves.
Mitzi can only hope that she and Ray have done a good job of giving them the tools they’ll need to navigate their lives successfully on their own.
