Kisha hadn’t realized that she’d been skipping meals until she wakes up practically starving the next morning. Her appetite is finally back in full force.
Luckily, she finds more of her father’s leftovers in the refrigerator. Eating the meal doesn’t exactly make her feel better, though. It only makes the house feel that much more empty; haunted by memories. Kisha decides that it’s time to really consider her future. She either needs to sell this house and move or find something interesting to do with her life.
After a quick shower, Kisha tries desperately to think of something to do with her day off. Before she can come up with anything, she receives a text from Angela…
Angela’s Text: Meet me at my place. Here’s my address…
Kisha reads over the address and sees that Angela doesn’t live very far away. She might as well go and visit since she has absolutely nothing else to do.
Kisha’s Text: K…be there soon.
Kisha arrives at the address that Angela gave, a small desert-style duplex, and knocks on the door.
It’s not Angela who opens the door and lets her in. Kisha is so thrown off that she totally forgets her manners.
Kisha: Hi…uh, who are you?
Jeffrey: I should be asking you that. You’re in my house.
Kisha: Oh…sorry. Are you Angela’s boyfriend?
Jeffrey: No…I’m Jeff. Angela lives next door. We’re neighbors.
Kisha: I’m so sorry. How embarrassing! I’m at the wrong house. But…why would you just let some stranger into your house?
Jeffrey: I figured you might have known Angela. You must be Kisha. Angela has told me about you. Uh…she’s not home right now, but you’re welcome to wait here for her.
Jeff starts walking toward the couch.
Jeffrey: Was Angela expecting you?
Kisha: Yeah…she just texted me.
Jeffrey: She should be home any minute then.
Kisha: I’ll just wait outside for her.
Jeffrey: Or you can wait here where it’s cool.
Kisha: Uh…no. But thanks! I’ll wait outside.
Jeffrey: Okay, but it’s hot as hell out there and you have on a sweater. Angela would never forgive me if I allowed her friend to stand outside and melt.
Jeff is right…it’s a lot hotter outside than Kisha expected. She agrees to stay and wait for Angela there.
Kisha: I guess I can wait a few minutes in case she shows up.
They both sit in silence for a few minutes, before Jeff attempts to make small talk…
Jeffrey: Angela tells me that you’re a pretty good cop.
Kisha: I’m okay. I’m new, so I have a lot to learn.
Jeffrey: What made you decide to join the police force?
Kisha doesn’t really want to get into a conversation with Jeff.
Kisha: I’m sorry Jeff…I’m sure you’re a nice guy, but I’m not ready for this. I’m… I’m just not in a good place in my life right now.
Jeffrey: Ready for what…having a conversation?
Kisha: No…I…uh, I think Angela invited me over here hoping that we’d meet. She’s been trying to set us up. I don’t think this is a coincidence.
Jeffrey: Angela’s not really that type of person. Maybe she got some unexpected overtime.
Kisha: Either way… I’d better go.
Jeffrey: Okay, but at least let me walk you out.
Kisha follows Jeff outside…
Jeffrey: I can’t help but notice that something seems to be bothering you. I’m a good listener if you want to talk about it.
Jeffrey: We can grab a cup of coffee or some-
Kisha: *cuts Jeff off* No…thanks. Nice of you to offer, but…it’s personal and I really don’t want to talk about it. Um…it’s nice to meet you. Can you tell Angela that I stopped by?
Jeffrey: Sure. Nice to meet you, too.
Jeff gives up and goes back into his house. Kisha gets another text soon after…
Trent’s text: Danielle had the baby last night. Come by and meet your niece!
