Kisha is feeling better than she’s felt in a very long time. She spent all morning working on the process of moving. She’s removed all of her family’s personal items from her childhood home and is ready to begin her life in a new location. Kisha feels like she can finally breathe again!
Kisha sits down and finishes off the last meal that was cooked by her father before he passed away. Eating this last steak sort of feels symbolic; like eating it opens the door for her to really begin living her own life. A life not haunted by an empty house filled with bittersweet memories.
Kisha has chosen a 3-bedroom craftsman, with a huge backyard in a quiet neighborhood in Newcrest. All she has to do is finish up the paperwork and the house is hers.
Once everything is complete…Kisha moves in and immediately adds pictures of her family to the walls.
Kisha’s favorite feature of the new home is the backyard with its circular deck, hot tub, and pool. She immediately tries out the pool.
Kisha’s swim is interrupted by the doorbell. She’s excited to see that her first visitors are her new neighbors.
Kisha invites everyone in and introductions are made.
Leigh: Nice to meet you…I’m Leigh Steiner.
Kisha: Steiner? Wait… you’re Abrey’s mom! We’re going to be family soon.
Leigh: Sure looks like it!
Olivia: And I’m Olivia Rodriguez and this is my husband, Alfonso.
Kisha: Nice to meet you both!
Olivia: We brought you a fruitcake…we hope you like it.
Kisha: Thanks…I’ll get plates.
Kisha calls everyone over to share some of the fruit cake and Leigh begins to talk about Abrey and Greg.
Leigh: I was shocked to hear that they decided to get engaged so quickly.
Kisha: Yeah, but there’s no denying the chemistry between the two of them.
Leigh: You have a point there. They do seem very happy! Your brother is a very nice guy. My Abrey is lucky to have him.
Kisha: We feel the same way about Abrey.
Kisha takes a bite of fruitcake and can barely chew and swallow it. She’s going to have to find a polite, discrete way to discard it…there’s no way she’s going to eat any more of it.
Kisha: Hey…I’ll be throwing a Halloween party later on this week. You’re all welcome to come!
Olivia: That sounds fun…we’ll try to stop by.
Kisha puts away the leftover fruit cake and begins to clean up the dirty plates. She’ll just have to figure out who to pawn the cake off on later. Trent would probably like it…he’d eat almost anything.
Alfonso tries to make conversation with Kisha, making her suddenly feel very conscious about still being in her bikini. The last thing she wants to do is cause a misunderstanding with Olivia over being half-dressed in front of her husband. Kisha excuses herself to slip on some clothes.
Kisha joins Leigh on the couch…
Leigh: I’m so glad you moved into our neighborhood. I look forward to getting to know you.
Kisha: Same here! Feel free to come by whenever you want to.
Kisha takes a quick phone call before saying goodbye to her new neighbors. So far, Kisha feels pretty good about her new neighborhood.
After her neighbors leave, Kisha goes out to her deck to practice meditating. She manages to concentrate hard enough that she feels as if she’s floating a few feet into the air. That is until her phone rings, which breaks her concentration and causes her to fall.
The call is from her brother Greg…
Gregory: I wanted you to know that Abrey and I have decided to set a date to get married.
Kisha: I’m so happy for you! As you might know, his mother is my new neighbor. I just met her today. Where will the wedding be?
Gregory: We decided to keep it between the two of us. You know me…I’m not exactly into big crowds and a whole lot of hoopla.
Kisha: Yeah, but are you sure that’s what Abrey wants?
Gregory: He agreed-
Kisha: But is that what he really wants?
Gregory: Uh…maybe we should discuss it a bit more.
Kisha: That might be a good idea!
Kisha ends the first day in her new home. Her bedroom is cozy and her bed is soft and comfortable. She sleeps better than she’s slept in a long time.
