Family Moments (1)
The morning starts as usual. Me-Me gets up first thing in the morning to check her application status, and Merlin is in the kitchen preparing breakfast.
Jalisa suddenly realizes that she hasn’t been in Jalin’s bedroom since he moved in. So she decides to go down and check on him but is shocked by what she sees.
Jalisa: *looking around* Boy, what kind of lazy – what happened to this room?
Jalin: Nothing, mom. What’s wrong with it?
Jalisa: Everything! *disgusted* What’s that smell? *sits down on the bed* Having your own bedroom is a privilege and can be taken away.
The threat of taking away his bedroom gets Jalin’s attention.
Jalin: But, mom—
Jalisa: Don’t “but mom” me! I want this bedroom clean by the time I get home from work today! And don’t forget to vacuum.
Jalin: But, mom, I’m supposed to be in an online video game tournament today.
Jalisa: *warning tone* What did I say?
Jalin: *defeated* Clean the room and vacuum…
Jalisa: By when?
Jalin: By the time you get home from work.
Jalisa gets up to leave.
Jalisa: Yes, and if you don’t, you and I will have a problem.
Jalin takes his mom’s threat seriously, but there’s no time to get started now. It’s time for the triplets to leave for school and for Jalisa to go to work.
The triplets arrive home from school. Me-Me is now an “A” student. The first thing she does is head to the mailbox when they get home. Lia stops her.
Jamelia: I forbid you to open this mailbox!
Melisa: But, I need to see if I’ve been accepted into college.
Jamelia: You’ve been obsessed with checking it for days. Let’s do something fun!
Melisa: *thinks about it* Like – go to the community garden?
Jamelia: That’s not what I had in mind, but if that’s what you consider fun – let’s go.
Jay would love to have some fun, but he knows his mom was serious about cleaning his bedroom. First, he empties the popcorn popper of all the stale popcorn that’s been in there for days; then, he picks up the dirty clothes and the clutter off of his bedroom floor. Finally, he grabs the vacuum and makes sure to clean up all the dirt and dust from his carpet. After he finishes, he looks around; convinced that his mom will be happy with the result – although he prefers his bedroom the way it was.
