Kisha is in her 2nd trimester of pregnancy and is absolutely miserable. She can’t sleep well at night because she can’t find a comfortable sleeping position. Going to the bathroom is painful and she has unexplained aches and pains here and there at random times.
On top of all of that, now that she’s definitely showing…she’ll have to go into work today and talk to the chief about her pregnancy. She knows that he’ll force her to desk duty for the rest of the pregnancy…which means her work days will be long and incredibly boring. She’ll consider taking her maternity leave. She’d rather be home than be useless at work.
Kisha’s mood is reflected in her cooking.
Jeffrey: *takes a bite* Oh…eeee!
Kisha: *depressed tone* I know…terrible, right?
Jeffrey: *unconvincing lie* They’re fine babe *forces down bites of almost tasteless pancakes*
Kisha: Even I’d rather eat Angela’s cooking today.
Jeffrey: Stop it! They’re fine.
Jeffrey: Are you going to be okay today? Maybe you really should call in and take the day off.
Kisha: Why? So I can stay here and make you miserable too? No…I have to talk to the chief today anyway.
Jeffrey: I’m sorry you’re having such a hard time today.
Kisha: *deep sigh* I’ll be okay, but thanks!
Kisha goes to work; leaving Jeff behind to clean up the kitchen…feeling bad that there’s nothing he can do to cheer her up. The best thing he can do right now is to go pack up and move his stuff into the house. He texts Angela to let her know that he’ll be moving out today.
Jeff arrives at the duplex that he and Angela shared. He attempts to unlock the door but discovers that it’s already unlocked. He looks around to make sure that no one has broken in and that nothing has been stolen and discovers Angela sitting at his table.
Jeff joins her at the table…
Jeffrey: Hey Angela! What’re you doing here?
Angela: Thinking. So…you’re really moving out. You and Kisha must have really hit it off!
Jeffrey: We have…she’s incredible. I’m so glad you forced us to meet.
Angela: Yeah, but it’s my biggest regret.
Jeffrey: *confused* What do you mean?
Angela: I mean…did you just give up on us?
Jeffrey: Us? I’m confused…there never was an ‘us’. You made it really clear that there never would be an ‘us’.
Angela: We came close once…
Jeffrey: Yeah, but you shut that down real quick and then when you insisted on Kisha and I meeting, it solidified in my mind that you and I weren’t going to work out, so I moved on.
Angela: I know…but now I feel like I made a mistake Jeff. I should never have introduced the two of you!
Jeffrey: *frustrated* But you did – why are you doing this now?
Angela: I didn’t realize-
Jeffrey: *angered tone* It’s too late Angela! I love her and I’m moving in with her!
Angela: But… you haven’t yet-
Jeffrey: We’re having a baby Angela!
Angela: *hurt tone* You’re having a… Kisha is pregnant?
Angela: So…that’s what this is. That’s why you’re suddenly moving in with her…because she’s pregnant?
Jeffrey: Don’t try to imply that that’s the only reason.
Angela: What other reason can there be?
Jeffrey: Didn’t you just hear me say that I love her?
Angela: But…I’m in love with you Jeff! I realize that now.
Jeff pushes away from the table with controlled anger.
Jeffrey: You know… I actually thought you were a good person Angela. I’ve actually defended you, but now I see who you really are. When I wanted you…you rejected me. Now you wait until I’m happy to pull this crap. I found love and you can’t stand it! I’ll be back tomorrow when you’re at work to get my stuff. Goodbye!
Jeff walks away, but Angela’s words stop him for just a moment…
Angela: That isn’t love that you’re feeling…what you’re feeling is trapped!
Jeffrey: You’re wrong Angela…and you know it!
Jeff can’t get away from Angela and her crazy pettiness fast enough. He regrets that he’s lost what he thought was a friend and ally. All he can do now is look forward to the things that he’s gained with Kisha.
