Tomorrow is Winterfest and I guess it’s true that sometimes adults get sad around the holidays because Ms. Fuller’s song is full of sadness this morning.
Ms. Fuller: ♫ I can’t stop loving you. It’s useless to say. So I’ll just live my life, in dreams of yesterday. Those happy hours…that we once knew. Tho’ long ago…they still make me blue.♪
It’s not just the words, but the sadness behind them. It makes me think of how sad mama always was after daddy died.
I enter the kitchen and toss an angry glance towards Ms. Fuller. I don’t like how her song is making me feel. But she continues, not even looking up from what she’s doing…
Ms. Fuller: ♪ They say that time, heals a broken heart. But time has stood stillll, since we’ve been apart.♫

I go into the bathroom and turn on the shower as my only escape from Ms. Fuller and her song that makes me think about mama and how much I miss her. I step into the shower and allow the water to wash away the tears that begin to form.
I change into my school uniform and exit the bathroom to grab a plate. I’m not feeling much better, but at least the food is good. I manage to take a few bites before Ms. Fuller starts talking to Raul and Claudia…
Ms. Fuller: I have some news…of your mother.
Everyone at the table seems to hold their breath in anticipation of what Ms. Fuller has to say. I believe that Michael and I are just as anxious as Raul and Claudia.
Raul: Is she coming back to get us?
Ms. Fuller: I’m sorry Raul. I don’t know anything about that. But she’s been located. She made it back to your family in Selvadorado safely.
Raul has a smile on his face, but I look over at Claudia and her expression is completely different.
Ms. Fuller apologizes to Raul and Claudia for not knowing more, then we all go back to normal…finishing up our breakfast and cleaning up afterward. Somehow, everything is completed with some spare time. I walk over to the couch and turn on the TV. Michael comes over to join me.
Claudia and Raul mope around the kitchen for a while longer. It seems that the news they received is not as happy as I figured it was meant to be.
After taking some time to process the news, Raul walks over to Claudia.
Raul: Is she still coming to get us?
Claudia: She said she would send for us.
Raul: But why hasn’t she?
Claudia: Maybe she can’t yet. *points a finger at Raul* But don’t you give up on her! She said she would and I believe her.
Raul: Okay
Raul walks over to the couch to sit with us. The smile has returned to his face. I guess that Claudia’s words are enough to reassure him. But from her face…I’m not so sure that she believes it all herself.
It’s time for us to leave. As we walk out the door, Ms. Fuller heads into her bedroom to do whatever she does while we’re gone for the day. Raul is in an upbeat mood…
Raul: I knew it! I knew my mom would be coming for us.
