The Old Quarter restaurant is nice and fancy inside, and the food prices reflect the ambiance. The food and drink choices include only the finest selections.
Kimmie: So this is the best of what Windenburg has to offer? Excellent pick, Waddell.
Waddell: I figured such a special lady and occasion deserves nothing less.
Prosperity: *all smiles* Aw, thanks.
Between this and the concert tickets, Waddell has gone all out in helping me celebrate my graduation. Even daddy looks impressed.
After everyone has ordered, Kimmie, Wild, and I get into a discussion about the warehouse.
Wildflower: Good news, the cleaning crew arrived this morning right after all the machines were removed. It’s almost all clean now. The windows need to be scrubbed next.
Kimmie: And I have some ideas that I think you’ll like. I’ll email them to you tonight. This house is going to be amazing.
That captures daddy’s attention.
Quincy: House? What house?
Prosperity: I found a place for us, daddy. It used to be a warehouse. It needs a lot of work, but once it’s done…you’re gonna love it.
Quincy: But I haven’t even made my final decision yet. I’m not sure I’m ready to leave Oasis Springs.
Kai: You staying with us would be great, Pop-pop! I’m really looking forward to it.
Quincy: It’ll be a big change for me. That’s for sure.
Kai: But you wouldn’t be going through it alone. You’ll have us. Plus, we never got the chance to go fishing like you promised in Sulani. You still owe me that. It’s something we can do after you move in.
I see Kai talking to daddy about moving in, and I can almost tell the exact moment when Kai has sold him on the idea of living with us. No one can resist Kai. I know it, and daddy knows it. But apparently, some of mama’s stubbornness has rubbed off on him because he’s not quite ready to admit that he’s lost the fight.
Quincy: I need to see the place first. Then I’ll decide.
Prosperity: Okay, daddy. It’s right up the hill. I’ll show it to you after dinner.
Our food arrives, and everyone seems pretty happy with their selections. But I’m not just pleased with my food; I’m also pleased because I know that daddy will love the house once he sees it. I make eye contact with Kai and silently thank him for helping me convince him.
Kimmie helps the cause even more.
Kimmie: So, Mr. Quincy, since I’ll be the one designing your place – I’d like to know what colors you prefer. Anything I can include to make the home more you?
Quincy: I get to be a part of the process?
Prosperity: Of course, daddy. This home will be yours just as much as it is mine and Kai’s.
Quincy: I don’t know… I prefer brighter colors. As long as there’s room for me to work out and stay in decent shape, I’d be happy.
Wildflower: There will be plenty of room for that. I’ve been doing some sketching this morning, and I think we’ll even have room for a small basketball court, right babe?
Kimmie: Definitely
I don’t want the whole dinner conversation to be about the house, so I change the subject by asking Wild how she and Kimmie met.
Wildflower: She was the designer at one of my worksites. I showed up feeling pretty grumpy about not getting enough sleep the night before, and there she was – it was like seeing the sun for the first time after dwelling in an underground bunker for years.
Prosperity: Aww, how sweet.
Everyone else follows my cue and break into their own conversations around the table.
Daddy turns to Waddell for the first time since we got here.
Quincy: This is a kind gesture. I appreciate your thoughtfulness when it comes to Peri, but I insist on paying for my daughter’s graduation dinner.
Waddell: I would never deny you that pleasure, sir. But I insist on leaving a tip if you don’t mind.
Quincy: Deal. I’m okay with that.
We all get up to leave while daddy and Waddell settle the bill and tip.
Everyone else heads outside, but I can’t leave without commemorating this moment with another selfie.
Prosperity: *to self* Congrats, girl! You did it! *snaps picture*
