Banks Dynasty – Day 12.3 (Part 1)

It’s “Sun”-day, the first day of summer. I spend the following day wondering how to prepare for my first woohoo. I’ve practiced putting on protection a few times in the shower, and of course, I know the technicalities of woohoo. It’s the rest that I’m questioning.  Like – how to make sure Me-Me enjoys it. I do a bit of research online. Big mistake! Some of the stuff I run across doesn’t even seem natural. But, I admit that I take a few more quick peeks and bookmark a few sites, particularly a more tasteful one called Delights*. Then I turn off the computer to find other ways to prepare.

Maybe a good workout will help me be in the best shape for my date with Me-Me tonight. But to work out, I need fuel. So I go downstairs and am surprised to see my friend Mo. I hurry over.

Kai: What’s up?

Maurice: Hey K. It worked. This morning, I visited the housing office and found out that another one of your roommates was moving out. And I was the next on the waiting list.

Kai: Nice! Glad to have you here, bruh. Who are you sharing with?

We sit down at the table, and I grab the only thing I see available to eat – baked chicken.

Maurice: Daquan. He’s the one that moved in yesterday, right?

Kai: Yeah, so you’re upstairs with me. Cool!

Maurice: It’s a relief to be out of the dorms. My roommate was a complete a-hole!

Kai: Daquan seems pretty cool. I think you two should get along.

Kai: I’m about to head to the student center to work out. You wanna come?

Maurice: I already hooped this morning.

Kai: It’s all good. I’m just trying to prepare for my date with Melisa tonight.

Maurice: Building up your endurance? It sounds like you two plan to celebrate “Sun”-day the best way possible.

Kai: Maybe – it’s all up to her.

Maurice: Well, good luck with that.

Mo pulls out a “Sun”-day noisemaker and begins to swing it around.

I go to the student center basement gym and start my workout on the rock climbing treadmill. I complete the endurance challenge again, but I don’t beat my last score. After some climbing, I go a few rounds with the sparring dummy. I’ve never been a great boxer, but I hold my own and manage to avoid getting hit by the swinging arms.

I spot Me-Me upstairs after my workout. Seeing her always makes my day. I pull her close and squeeze her tight. I love having her in my arms.

I hope that I’ll be able to do more of it tonight. But we’ll have to see how it goes.

Melisa: *after the hug* So, are you going to tell me where we’re going for our date?

Kai: No, I already told you that it was a surprise.

Melisa: How will I know what to wear?

Melisa pauses to grab two glasses of punch prepared for the students to celebrate “Sun”-day. She gives me the second glass, and I sit down.

Kai: Wear whatever you want. You can wear what you have on now. I don’t care.

Melisa: But I do!

Kai: Okay, okay… wear something – “summery.”

Melisa: Summery? Are we going to a beach? A lake?

Kai: Just be prepared for anything.

Melisa: Okay – I’ll figure something out.

Me-Me decides to go to her dorm room to prepare for our date. So I leave to do the same. I’m halfway home when an unexpected text hits me like a brick. My father, Craig, has passed away.

My life is beginning to feel like a tragic play. Why is this happening to me? I just want to go out and have a great date, but it seems that tragedy will forever be the foundation of my relationship with Me-Me. I’m mourning for a man that I don’t even know this time.

Me-Me deserves to have me at my best. I decide to call and try to get out of our date without telling her why. She answers the phone, happily chattering about the outfits she’s tried on and how excited she is to see where we’re going. I don’t have the heart to end her joy. I will have to suck it up and try to get through this evening without completely breaking down. I tell her that I’ll see her in an hour and end the call.
