Yesterday proved to be a long day for me, so I’m one of the last ones up the following day. But I’m anxious to get ready and start this Mt. Komorebi vacation. Because, who knows what we’ll find to get into today.
I make my way down and greet the family. But, by the time I make it into the kitchen, the food prepared by Merlin is gone. So, both Lia and I are on our own for breakfast.
Jamelia: You snooze; you lose in this family. *annoyed* I’d bet anything that Jay took more than his share.
Being the only child, I never had to deal with not making it to the kitchen on time. So I make a note to myself to make sure I’m up earlier tomorrow.
I open the refrigerator to see my options. I follow Lia’s lead, make myself a ham and cheese sandwich, and join the breakfast stragglers at the table.
Jay gets up and leaves the dining room. Lia sees that Jay has left his bowl at the table.
Jamelia: Jay, can you please clean up your bowl?
Jalin: If you want it clean, clean it yourself!
That’s all it takes for the morning battle to begin.
Merlin walks in dressed for the day.
Merlin: After breakfast, I figured we could all go on a family hike.
I’m down for that. I can’t wait to see more of the area, but I can’t speak for everyone.
Jamelia: *puts her sandwich down* Staring at Jay’s dirty dish makes me lose my appetite.
Jalisa enters the room, and without even missing a beat, she picks up the dish and heads towards the kitchen.
Jamelia: *frustrated* Mom! You have to stop cleaning up after him!
Lia sits down and continues to complain.
Jamelia: Ugh, Jay is such a pig. Good luck sharing a room with him!
Kai: *amused* I’m sure it’ll be fine. I wish I had grown up with siblings to have these types of arguments.
Jamelia: Well, you’re already taking Me-Me; you’re welcome to take Jay, too!
I chuckle, believing that Lia is joking, but she looks serious.
Me-Me walks in after hearing the tail end of Lia’s words.
Melisa: What are you complaining about now, Lia?
Jamelia: It’s Jay! I can’t stand him.
Melisa: You and Jay used to be so close. What happened?
Jamelia: He just irritates me with his carelessness. You haven’t been to his place yet. It’s a pigsty. And then when mom and dad visit, mom immediately begins cleaning up after him – every time! It makes me so mad. He’s like a dirty Llama in a freaking stable!
Apparently, there’s a history here that Me-Me and I aren’t privy to because I don’t think either of us sees the big deal.
Me-Me is no longer listening, and she makes that obvious.
Melisa: *to Kai* Anyway. Kai, are you almost ready to go?
But Lia still wants to talk about it.
Jamelia: And another thing –
Jalisa enters the room.
Jalisa: Lia, please let it rest. We can hear you all over the house.
Jamelia: I’ll give it a rest when you stop babying him.
Jalisa: When you have children, you can decide how to care for them.
Me-Me and I do our best to tune out the disagreement, hoping it has finally ended. But Lia has one more thing to say.
Jamelia: I’m never having children. And Jay’s a grown man, not a child!
Jalisa: Well, you can stay here and continue complaining to yourself. We’re all going hiking. *leaves the room*
Being the kind soul that she is, Me-Me stays there at the table, lending her sister her ear for a bit longer while I head upstairs to put on my coat to ready myself for our hike. If talking to Me-Me doesn’t help, maybe Lia will find some peace out in nature.
