Me-Me and I arrive in Henford, hours later. We don’t enter the house right away but instead spend several minutes staring out over the vast estate.
Melisa: How much of this do you think belongs to you?
Kai: You mean us.
Melisa: *correction* Us
Kai: Maybe to that stone wall
Melisa: I almost can’t believe it.
Kai: Me either
Me-Me breaks our trance, turns, and walks towards the side of the house.
We approach the pond and look it over as if it’s our first time seeing it. Then wordlessly, we enter the house through the garage. We end up in the spacious eat-in kitchen.
Kai: Are you okay with the furnishings? We can change it all out if you want.
Melisa: No, I’m okay with it. It feels…homey.
If she likes it, I love it. And keeping it will be a lot easier and cheaper than switching it all up.
Neither of us has seen the bedroom, so that’s our next destination. We enter and take a good look around.
Melisa: It’s so clean. Someone has been taking great care of the place.
Kai: Yeah. Maybe my father had it cleaned before he passed.
Melisa: Seems like it
Our conversation is interrupted by a call from ma.
I answer the call, and ma goes in right away, chatting about us possibly meeting up tomorrow in a nearby town called Tartosa to begin our wedding planning. Me-Me and I haven’t had the opportunity to discuss when we’ll get married, but ma insists that we should at least start preparing.
While ma and I continue talking, Me-Me leaves the room – perhaps to explore other parts of the house.
Me-Me finds a nicely furnished office downstairs. The first thing she does is turn on the computer and begin a job search to see what’s available. She’s not sure how soon she should wait to start applying for jobs, but she doesn’t want to wait too long.
I end the call with ma, who is over the top with excitement over the chance to help us plan a wedding. She seems to think that Me-Me and I should think about getting married sooner rather than later. She regrets all the time she wasted in her life and doesn’t want to see that happen with us. I agree with her, but it’ll all be up to Me-Me. My thoughts are interrupted by a knock at our front door.
I hurry down the stairs and yell out for our visitors to enter. I’m thrilled to see that it’s my uncle Merit and his girlfriend, Roni. Uncle M pulls me into a strong, tight hug.
Merit: Happy Ancestor Day, nephew. We’re neighbors now!
Kai: Neighbors?
Merit: Yep, we live in the house right across the way.
Kai: That’s the best news I’ve heard all day!
Me-Me enters the room out of a door to my right. She walks over and introduces herself to Roni.
Veronica: It’s so lovely to meet you finally! Kai’s mom, Peri, talks about you constantly.
My little cousin, Terra, enters the house and joins her parents. She’s grown a lot since the day I rescued her from the thunderstorm.
Kai: Where’s the baby?
Merit: She’s at home with a sitter. We’ll bring her by so you can meet her soon.
I realize that we’ve been standing here in the entryway for a while.
Kai: Come on in and have a seat.
I lead them to the living room. Me-Me walks over behind us with Terra.
Terra: Don’t you have any kids for me to play with?
Melisa: No. No kids, I’m sorry.
Kai: So you took my advice and moved here to Henford?
Merit: Yes, and I’m glad we did. It seems to be a nice place to raise a family – I’m still not big on the idea of farming, though.
Kai: *turns to Roni* How do you like it so far?
Veronica: It’s about as country as Strangeville, except without all the heat. It shouldn’t take too long to get used to it.
Kai: It’s nice to have family so close.
Veronica: That’s the best part. We were so isolated in Strangerville.
Kai: You all are welcome to visit anytime you want.
Veronica: Thank you, Kai.
After we share more small talk about Henford, I pull Uncle M to the side to ask him a question.
Kai: You don’t know how much having you all here means to me. You’ve always been an important part of my life, and I wanted to ask if you’d be my Sim of Honor at our wedding.
Merit: Seriously, nephew? Me?
Kai: I can’t think of anyone else I’d rather have by my side.
Merit: Of course – I’d be honored!
We hug, and I have to work hard to keep myself from becoming emotional.
Melisa: *to Roni* Terra is so darn cute.
Veronica: Thank you! She’s in a bit of a snotty mood today because she was hoping there would be some kids to play with over here.
Melisa: We have a swing set out back; maybe she’d want to do that.
Veronica: I don’t think there’s any kid that would turn down a chance to swing.
