Aching breasts, clinging fatigue, and an unrelenting bout of morning sickness greet Me-Me in the morning. She knows that pregnancy is the probable cause of her symptoms. She knew that immediately after her wedding night, but fear has stopped her from confirming it. Now, taking a pregnancy test only verifies what she’s already accepted – she and Kai are going to be parents.
She walks over to the mirror and looks at her protruding belly.
Melisa: Good morning, my little nooboo.
She can’t wait to tell Kai, but he’s sleeping so peacefully, and she doesn’t want to wake him. So she heads downstairs to prepare breakfast instead. This little sim wants to eat, and he or she wants to eat now.
Me-Me pulls out some ingredients and uses her newly learned cooking skills to chop up fruit for a fruit salad.
I might be a daddy! That’s the first thought that pops into my head as soon as my eyes open. I climb out of bed because I want to know for sure, but Me-Me isn’t there. Finding her is my second thought. I quickly dress and head downstairs. She’s there in the kitchen.
I go and pull out a chair next to her.
Kai: Did you take a test yet?
Melisa: I did, and it was positive.
Kai: Meaning?
Melisa: We’re having a baby!
I’m thrilled! A baby! My wife and I are having a baby – a whole sim child. And we’ll be responsible for it. I’m going to be a father – something that I never had but always wanted. So now I get this chance to make up for what I lacked.
I get up to grab some breakfast as the news begins to settle. Then I realize that I have no idea what this is like for Me-Me. Of course, I’m a biology major, so I’ve studied the ins and outs and tiny details of reproduction. But I can only imagine what Me-Me is going through with all of the changes in her body.
Kai: Is everything okay? Do you feel alright?
I sit back down.
Melisa: Other than a bit of nausea, I think I’m okay.
Kai: Should we tell anybody? I can’t wait to hear Ma’s reaction.
Melisa: It’s Winterfest tomorrow. Let’s tell them then.
Kai: Should I invite everyone over? It can be like we said – we can host our first big family get-together.
Melisa: I don’t know if my parents will be able to come. They just left.
Kai: We’ll get them on video chat and tell everyone together.
Melisa: Yeah, okay. *pause* I’d better get ready. It’s my first day of work.
With so much big news, I almost forgot that Me-Me starts work today. She gets up and goes upstairs while I clean up the kitchen. But my thoughts are on our baby and everything that comes with it.
I go outside to get started on the farm work. First, I grab an egg from the coop. Me-Me and I may be expecting our first child, but Ebony and Ivory haven’t had the same type of luck. So who knows when we’ll get our first baby chick.
Meanwhile, Me-Me gets some practice in at her robot station before it’s time for her to leave for work.
Next, I check in on Ebony and Ivory, then start planting some of our large crops. I never imagined that running a farm would require so much work. And, with Me-Me working a full-time job, I can already tell that it will be a matter of time before I’ll need to hire someone to help me manage the workload here, especially after the baby arrives.
(Side note: Me-Me’s custom hair is ruining her work outfit. I’ll have to change it. 🤨)
I’ve done all I can with our crops, so I decide to go for a jog. Unfortunately, I’ve gained some weight during my time in college. If I want to be able to keep up with the farm and a baby, I need to be in tip-top shape. Luckily, Henford provides a gorgeous backdrop for a good long run.
I get a call from Ma once I make it back home. It takes a lot to refrain from telling her the big news. But Me-Me is right; we should wait until the holiday. So instead, I allow Ma to catch me up on all the family gossip. Then I invite her and Mr. Washington over to celebrate Winterfest with us tomorrow.
Speaking of Winterfest, a big house like this should be well decorated. I want to surprise Me-Me by getting started on it right away. I search the garage and find some boxes filled with decorations. I pull them out and get started on the outside of the house. Once I’ve finished, I do what I can for the inside, without much to work with.
