Kai is fast asleep when Wade wakes up hungry. Me-Me has managed to get some decent rest, so she answers the call. First, she lifts Wade out of his crib. He latches on quickly to her breast, and Me-Me watches as he sucks until he’s full and drowsy. Then, she moves him up to her shoulder and gently rubs his back until he burps. Me-Me is starting to get the hang of this parenting thing. But she’s unsure how it’ll all fit when she has to go back to work.
Next up is breakfast. Me-Me takes ingredients from the refrigerator for eggs, toast, and bacon. Although she and Kai have only had one cooking class so far, she’s confident that she can prepare this simple meal without burning up the whole kitchen.
She manages to cook the eggs without them sticking to the skillet, her toast is lightly toasted, and her bacon comes out nicely browned and crispy. Even better, she prepares everything mainly using the fresh ingredients from their farm.
Washing dishes is another challenge. Me-Me tries to hide it, but she’s extremely clumsy. Every dishwashing session results in a dropped plate or glass. Luckily most of their dishes aren’t breakable. And the few things that she has broken can be easily replaced.
Me-Me has gotten a lot accomplished this morning, so she decides to see if she can manage a workout before Wade wakes up from his morning nap. But, clumsiness bites Me-Me in the ass, or instead face – when she slips and falls face-first on the treadmill.
Melisa: Oh, my head!
Our pint-sized alarm clock wakes me up in the late morning. I don’t know where Me-Me is, so I check on Dub. This time I’m greeted by a nasty diaper. There’s no way I’m getting out of it, so I do my best to get him changed and cleaned up.
As soon as I finish, I make my way to the bathroom to clean myself up. I have a graduation ceremony to attend in an hour.
Miraculously, I make it to my ceremony right on time. Ma is right there to greet me. I didn’t expect anyone to come, but ma tells me that there was no way she would miss seeing me graduate. When I think about everything that I had to do to get here, I realize that it is a significant accomplishment that deserves celebration.
I line up with the other graduates, and we enter the auditorium. A few hours later, I exit with my degree in hand. I take a selfie to commemorate the moment.
Realizing that all of the grans will be anxious to see Wade again, Me-Me and I decide to throw a small gettogether. We order a catered meal and pour some citrus punch for our parents.
Jalisa, Merlin, and ma arrive soon after we invite them over. I greet Jalisa and Merlin, then take a graduation selfie with ma. Although I’m still in my graduation gown, I know this party is more about everyone seeing Wade than my graduation, but I’m okay with that. It’s more important that Wade get to know his grandparents as much as possible.
Sure enough, Jalisa asks about Wade right away. She pulls out her phone and shows me all the pictures she took of him yesterday. Then, Me-Me comes to greet her parents, letting them know that Wade is asleep and that we’ll bring him down in a bit.
Jalisa: But we really want to see him. We’ll be quiet.
There’s no use trying to deny the grandparents. They will not be satisfied until one of us go upstairs to get him.
