Merit, Roni, and their girls arrive at City Hall in Tartosa. They have chosen today, the first day of the new year, as their wedding day. But rather than have a big wedding, they have decided on a small ceremony with just their immediate family. So they go inside, exchange vows, and exit the building as husband and wife. They share a kiss right outside the door.
They’ve hired a photographer to capture this special moment and help introduce newly married Mr. Merit Banks and Ms. Veronica Blu with their girls, Terra and Brianna Blu-Banks, to the sim world.
Merit: *To Roni* I love you more than life itself. Thank you for making this the happiest day of my life.
Veronica: I love you more!
Since quitting her acting career, Roni has been out of the spotlight for a while. But she still can’t resist having a special moment in front of the camera once again.
Since graduating college, my opportunities for working out have been fewer and farther between, and it shows. I have a little extra weight and flab that I need to work out, and I decide to do that by purchasing a rock climbing treadmill. Climbing Mt. Komorebi one day is still on my list of things to do before I die. But if I want to do that, I have a lot of lost ground that I need to make up.
Upstairs, Dub looks up from his blocks and notices that his mommy isn’t there anymore. Where did she go? He leaves his bedroom to look for her but still doesn’t see her. Instead, he passes a big thing in the hallway. It has a face but not like his mommy and daddy’s. This face doesn’t move. Seeing it makes him want to move faster, but he can’t get away fast enough. He wants his mommy, and he wants his mommy now! She can pick him up, and he can put his head on her shoulder and not have to see the scary face again.
He tries whimpering. Usually, that is all he has to do to make her come quickly with the soft voice saying, “what’s wrong, sweet baby”? He likes that voice and wants to hear it now. But she doesn’t come.
When whimpering doesn’t work, he realizes he has to do more. He’ll have to try the cry that makes her run into his room even faster…the one that makes her pick him up and hold him tight, patting his back and saying, “it’s okay, Wade. Everything will be okay.”
He plants his feet on the ground, takes a deep breath, and cries out as loud as possible. Suddenly he can hear his mommy’s voice from downstairs.
Melisa: I’m down here, Dubbie. I’ll be up to get you in a minute.
Dub isn’t about to wait for that minute. He wants to see his mommy now, so he decides to try climbing down the stairs. When it makes it to the bottom, his mommy is surprised to see him.
Melisa: You climbed down all those steps by yourself?
His mommy is where all the yummy things that he gets to put in his mouth come from. She’s standing in something shiny that he wants to touch. Me-Me follows his eyes.
Melisa: Stay away from all this water. I need to get this mess cleaned up.
Water? So that’s what it is. He wants to know what it feels like, but before he works up the nerve to reach out and touch it, his mommy begins to make it disappear.
Wade: *disappointed sigh*
Melisa: What’s wrong, Dubbie? You want to go outside.
Outside? Is there more water outside?
By the time they make it outside, Dub has forgotten about the water. His mommy takes him to something even better. Something that he gets to climb on, like the stairs inside. She calls it a slide. He gets to the top and sits down. She holds out her arms and tells him to come to her. When he does, he feels himself going down quickly, making his tummy feel funny. At first, it scares him, but he likes it when his mommy catches him at the bottom.
Melisa: You did it, Dubbie! You slid down the slide. Good job!
Dub likes this voice. It’s the same one his mommy and daddy used when he sat on the potty. But even better than that, his mommy pulls him closer and puts her arms around him, making him feel warm and safe. Even the scary face he saw upstairs can’t make him unhappy now.
But that warm and safe feeling doesn’t last long. His mommy puts him down, and he follows her to another part of the yard but stops when he sees a stuffed animal in front of him. He takes a step and reaches out to touch it, but it flicks suddenly. This isn’t like the animals in his room. Those don’t move.
Melisa: It’s okay. It’s just a little bunny. You can touch him, but you have to be gentle, so you don’t hurt him.
Dub reaches out again, but the bunny moves forward, scaring him. He doesn’t like it and wants to get away from it quickly.
Wade: No bu-ny!
