In her short time as a parent, Me-Me has already learned to use every spare moment. While Dub plays with his pail and shovel in the sand, she studies up on her mechanical skills, hoping a promotion won’t be far off when she finally returns to work.
I hate to admit that ma has been right all this time, but I have no choice when I finally finish the farm work and scramble into the house, feeling exhausted and on the verge of peeing myself. I will have to find a balance very soon, or this isn’t going to work for long. Hopefully, the gardener I hired will arrive and make my tasks easier tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Me-Me and Dub sit down at the table for dinner. Dub decides he doesn’t like vegetable tempura, so he tosses his whole plate on the ground.
Melisa: *stern tone* That’s a no-no, Dubbie! We don’t throw our food on the floor.
Dub doesn’t like this new tone of voice at all.
Wade: *explaining himself in toddler babble*
His mom doesn’t react to his babble the way his daddy does. He feels frustrated when she looks at him with the “I mean it” expression on her face. He doesn’t want mommy anymore. He now wants daddy. He’s glad when his dad finally comes to the table.
I sit down at the table and see Me-Me looking frustrated that Dub has made a big mess at the table.
Kai: Did you make a big mess for mommy to clean up?
Wade: *smiles and babbles*
Kai: That’s not nice, Wade. We have to help mommy, not make messes. Okay?
Wade: K!
After working out and taking care of crops all day, I barely have the energy to take my plate to the sink, but I manage. I do my best to conjure up a reserve of energy to help Me-Me clean Dub up and take him upstairs.
After changing him and tucking him into bed, I make my exit. The only thing on my mind is our nice warm bed. Me-Me takes her turn with Dub after I’ve left the room.
After tucking one baby into bed, Me-Me enters the hallway, and she sees that she will have to help her husband to bed as well. Kai has collapsed face down on the floor in the hallway.
Melisa: Kaby, get up! We need to get you to bed.
I jump up, not realizing that I hadn’t quite made it to my bed. I scramble out of my workout clothes and finally make it up under the covers to our bed as Me-Me disappears into the bathroom. I can only hope she has everything under control because I’m too tired to help with anything else.
On a whim, Me-Me decides to take a pregnancy test, which turns out to be negative. Disappointment escapes from her in a sigh. They weren’t exactly trying, but a positive pregnancy test wouldn’t have been unwelcomed. Me-Me is surprised at how sad she is when she washes her hands at the sink.
