It’s Dubbie’s first day of school, and Me-Me is up extra early to make sure there’s something warm for him to eat before he leaves. After suppressing a bout of nausea, she successfully creates her first milk bread.
Me-Me is up before me, so I know she has to be equally as excited as I am to see Dub off on his very first day of school. She has already prepared something to eat, and Dub has already finished by the time I come down to join them. Dub appears to be extra confident, but that’s not all I notice. I look at Me-Me, and it seems that she has grown a bit in the middle. Could it be?
Melisa: It’s time for you to go now, Dubbie. Your bus will be here any minute.
Wade: Okay, mommy
Dub looks like a proud rooster with his wattle puffed out as he marches towards the front door.
Kai: Do you want me to wait for the school bus with you?
Wade: No, daddy, I’ve got this!
I guess Dub is trying to impress us by showing us that he’s a big boy. But I want more than anything to coddle him and make sure he’s not scared to go to school and be away from home alone for the first time.
After Dub has stepped out the door, Me-Me comes over and sits down next to me. I take another good look at her stomach to avoid making assumptions.
Kai: Me-Me? Are you, are we-?
Melisa: – expecting another baby? Yes, Kaby – we are.
I want to jump for joy, but I need to be sensitive here. After having Mase, Me-Me said she didn’t want to have more children. I’m not sure if this is good news for her, so I proceed cautiously.
Kai: Oh, babe. I’m so sorry. I know this isn’t what you wanted.
Melisa: It’s okay. I’m happy about it.
Kai: Are you sure? Because it’s okay if you’re not. I know you wanted to focus on your career after Mase, and –
Melisa: I’m sure. I’m happy – I promise.
I stand, and she joins me. I pull her into my arms. We’re having another baby, and I’m thrilled.
Melisa: *whispers in my ear* No more after this one, though.
Kai: *chuckles* Agreed! No more after this one.
Kai: Have you told anyone yet?
Melisa: No, but you’re mom already knows. She was the one that told me.
Kai: What? How did she know?
Melisa: I guess she could see it.
Ma’s abilities never cease to amaze me.
Kai: Your parents will be excited to find out.
Melisa: I’ll call and tell them now. They just found out that Jay and his girlfriend are also having a baby. They might pass out once they hear this.
Kai: I wish I were there to see it.
I step away to give Me-Me the space to share her news. I have some things to check on outside.
Our gardener, Evan, did a great job of caring for the crops while we were away. I give him a hand spraying watermelons for bugs – partially because I miss getting my hands dirty with the smaller tasks of running a farm. Unfortunately, the one thing he doesn’t do is manage the bee hives. I quickly find out they react negatively to neglect when I try to collect some of the wax and spray for mites.
After completing all the tasks, I attempt to finish the morning off with a climbing session, but a broken machine greets me. So I call a repairperson and begin looking for another way to get a workout in.
I see our new family pet and decide to take care of two things at once. I can walk the dog and get a nice sweat in simultaneously. I leash Belle up and take her for a little test run. The dog may be small, but she’s a good runner. I stop to allow her a chance to catch her breath.
Kai: That was just the warm-up. Can you keep up with those tiny legs?
Belle looks up at me as if she’s up for the challenge. So I take off at a faster pace, and Belle surprises me by keeping up.
Peri helps with some household tasks, while Me-Me takes care of Mase by bathing him and getting him ready for breakfast.
Me-Me runs into Peri in the kitchen when she takes Mase down to feed him. After she sits down with her plate –
Melisa: You were right, Peri. We’re having a baby!
Prosperity: I’m not interested in being wrong or right. The question is, how do you feel about it?
Melisa: It’s unexpected, but I’m good. I’m happy that the boys will be getting another sibling.
Prosperity: Then I’m happy for you!
