Mase is feeling extra giddy and silly around Perla. He’ll do anything to make her laugh, even if it involves making funny faces with honking sounds.

Perla: *chuckles* That’s pretty funny, Mase.

Mason: Yeah, that’s my impression of geese in flight.

Perla: You should be a comedian.

Mason: Well – I’m usually not very funny. I just wanted to make you laugh because I like it.

Perla: Aww, that’s sweet.

Stef, Mo, and I have completed our workout and have almost finalized our plans for the upcoming trip to Mt. Komo. Mo suggested that it might be wise to find a fourth guy to join us on our climb. Stef and I agree, but now it’s up to me to figure out where to find another guy on such short notice.

While I’m thinking about it, Stef says his goodbyes and heads home, with Mo saying that he’ll be right behind him.

Mase and Perla have almost finished watching their movie by the time Dub has completed his homework and is ready to join them. But nature calls, and he has to pee just as the credits for the movie are rolling.

Dub hopes that Perla stays for dinner like she usually does when their dads work out together. While on his way to the bathroom, he checks his phone and smiles when he sees Perla’s friend request. Now he’ll be able to contact her whenever he wants to.

After Mo and Stef have left, I go to the kitchen to get dinner started while continuing to rack my brain for a way to get a fourth guy for our trip to Mt. Komo. Stef suggested trying a rock climbing forum. I think that might be the way to go.

Perla: I have to go now. My dad just texted me to meet him outside.

Mason: Can you stay for a while? I can show you our treehouse.

Perla: Maybe next time. My mom is making dinner tonight, so we have to get back.

Mason: Okay, see you next time.

Perla: Yes, I’m sure I’ll be back soon.

Perla gets up to leave as Dub descends the stairs.

Wade: Leaving already? I thought you might stay for dinner.

Perla: No, sorry. My dad is waiting for me outside. But I’ll be back soon.

Wade: Very soon, I hope.

Perla: Yeah, me too.

Dub stops in his tracks as Perla walks out the door. Was that a flirty tone that he heard? Dub tries again to contain his smile as he walks to the dinner table.

My meatball tamale bites are a hit. Even Dray wants to give them a try.

Drake: I want ma-lee bites, Mase.

Mason: But you already ate.

Drake: I eat nuggets, not ma-lee bites. I want ma-lee bites.

Mason: Well, you can’t eat your dinner and mine too.

Me-Me comes to Mase’s rescue.

Melisa: *lifts Dray out of his high chair* You can have tamale bites for lunch tomorrow. It’s almost time for bed.

Me-Me helps to clear the table, changes out of her work uniform, and attempts to get Dray ready for bed.

Drake: But I need a story first.

Melisa: We can read a story upstairs.

Drake: But I want a story right here.

Dray is not being very cooperative. So I lead Mase upstairs and tell myself to come back to help Me-Me afterward.

Dub disappears into his bedroom while I walk Mase into his.

Kai: Pretty soon, you’ll be a teen like Dub, and you won’t want me to tuck you into bed.

Mason: I’ll always want you to tuck me into bed.

Kai: *chuckles* You say that now, but we’ll see.

I pass Me-Me in the hallway as she carries Dray to his room.

Kai: Need me to help?

Melisa: No, I’ve got him. After two stories and a glass of water, he has nothing else to ask for.

I’m not too sure about that. Now that Dray has learned to talk, I’m sure he can always come up with more ways to delay bedtime.
