Me-Me answers the door to greet Uncle Merit, his family, her sister Lia and Lia’s husband, Stef. After a hug, Lia pulls Me-Me to the side.
Jamelia: Are we sure we want to let our hubbies climb that mountain tomorrow? People die up there, you know.
Melisa: I know, Lia. And I’m trying really hard not to think about that. It’s Kai’s dream to climb that mountain, and I don’t want to stand in his way.
Jamelia: I don’t like it at all.
Melisa: We have to remain positive, and everything will be okay.
Jamelia: It better be.
Since their dads will be leaving to climb Mt. Komorebi in the morning, Dub hoped that Perla and her family would spend Winterfest with them. But he’s disappointed when he finds out they’re not coming, so he calls Perla.
Wade: *on the phone* Remind me again why your family isn’t here for Winterfest.
Perla tells him that they’re out of town spending Winterfest with her mother’s family this year. Dub responds after they end the call by sending her a selfie of his sad face as the family begins to grab food and sit down to eat.
After dinner, some of the family begins to gather around the tree to open presents. Dray hopes no one discovers he has already snuck one of his gifts. Mase opens one of his and is very disappointed to receive one carrot.
Drake: That one’s from me.
Mase thanks his brother, but he is very happy that this isn’t the only gift he’ll get today.
Me-Me smiles when she picks up a gift from Kai. It’s so light that she wonders if it might be empty. She shakes it but doesn’t hear anything. Then, finally, she opens it, and her smile broadens when she sees a gift certificate for a full day at the Botanical Spa. Attached is a note saying, ‘you deserve a day off!’
Dray approaches his brother.
Drake: Let’s take pictures to send to daddy, so he’ll remember us during his trip.
Mason: He’ll remember us whether we send him pictures or not.
Drake: Let’s take some anyway!
Mase agrees and poses for selfies with Dray.
The Banks family members begin to leave, but there are still gifts to open, so Dub approaches the tree to look for anything with his name. He’s so thrilled to receive a costly present that he decides it’s the perfect Simstagram moment. He pulls out his phone and snaps another selfie. He posts it with the caption, ‘ballin’ on Winterfest.’
Outside, the boys run into Father Winter.
Father Winter: *to Dray* I hear you’ve been up to no good this year.
Drake: What! Who’s been snitching?
Despite Dray’s less-than-perfect behavior, he and Mase both get gifts from Father Winter. However, Dub is once again the big winner when it comes to gifts. He gets yet another expensive Microscope. So he calculates how much money he’ll have if he sells them both, but not before thanking Father Winter.
After we’ve cleaned all remnants of our party, I approach the tree for my gifts. I open up a big box from Me-Me and the boys. It’s a set of ultra-warm clothing, hats, and gloves for my trip up the mountain. I’m beyond grateful.
I turn to see Me-Me holding a sprig of Mistletoe above my head. Before I can respond, her lips are on mine.
Melisa: You’d better come back to me, Kaby. I can’t do any of this without you.
Kai: I’m coming back, Me-Me. I promise.
Melisa: Good
Me-Me is trying to be tough, but I can hear the emotion in her voice as she turns to leave the room.
Melisa: See you upstairs.
I wonder if she’ll have more than just a kiss under the mistletoe waiting for me up there, but Dub and Mase are still standing there staring at me, completely disrupting my thoughts.
Dub steps over next.
Wade: I wish I could climb with you – so you’ll return safely.
Kai: You’ll be with me in spirit. That’s what’ll keep me safe.
Wade: See you when you get back, dad.
Kai: Yep! Love you, kid.
Wade: Love you too!
Dub walks to the stairs, and finally, Mase stands alone.
Mason: You can’t leave, daddy. I age up tomorrow.
My heart breaks. I’ve tried not to think about that, but now I must face it. Suddenly, I have an idea.
Kai: It’s almost tomorrow now. Let’s celebrate early – just you and me.
I pause and look closer at Mase, sensing he’s not feeling well.
Kai: But first, let’s get you feeling better.
I grab some meds from the kitchen cabinet and give them to him. He drinks it and looks better almost immediately. Now we celebrate.
