Dub and Perla sit at a nearby table, admiring the decorations and listening to the music. Moments later, the song changes to something that Perla seems to like. She begins to snap her fingers and nod her head to the beat. Dub takes this as his cue.
Wade: Do you want to dance?
Perla: Yeah, sure.
They stand and walk to the dance floor. Dub isn’t much of a dancer and suddenly wishes he had asked his dad for some pointers on what he should do on the dance floor.
The music slows, and Perla steps closer to him. Then, instinctually, he wraps his arm around her, and they sway slowly to the music. They dance through two or three more songs before Principal Prescott approaches the mike to announce the award ceremony.
The prom attendees gather around the stage to find out who has won. Perla is so shocked that she can barely step up on stage after she hears her name. She has won prom royalty. Dub is happy to be a part of her special night.
Back home, Mase searches for anything to take his mind off Perla and the prom. But he makes the mistake of checking the social bunny app where he sees a message from his brother. Reading Dub’s post feels like a slap in the face. So without even thinking about it, Mase hits the ‘dislike’ button.
Mase hoped that coming to the game room and working on a puzzle would distract him, but now his mind is stuck on Dub’s message. After putting together some of the pieces, Mase’s temper reaches its boiling point, and he disassembles and scrambles the pieces all over the table and floor. Now he’s left with a mess. He takes a few calming breaths, regathers the pieces, and begins to reassemble them.
Dressed for bed, Leslie heads up to Dray and Mase’s room. Dray is waiting for him on the sleeping bag.
Drake: I’m not sleepy yet. Are you?
Leslie is a little sleepy because it’s way past his regular bedtime. But he’d rather avoid Dray telling him he’s not tough again, so he decides not to admit it.
Leslie: No. Do you want to play a game?
Drake: Nah, that’s no fun.
Leslie: What should we do then?
Drake: We should have a…*loud voice* Pillow fight!
Seemingly out of nowhere, Dray pulls out a pillow and pulls it up over his head, prepared to land a blow. Leslie hopes it won’t get them in trouble, like when they got caught watching a horror movie earlier because Dray insisted it would prove they were tough. He grabs the closest pillow and prepares to defend himself. The pillow fight begins.
I hear a lot of commotion coming from Dray and Mase’s bedroom, so I walk in to see what’s happening. Dray and Leslie are in the middle of an intense pillow battle. But I know it’s just a matter of time before someone gets hurt and starts crying.
Kai: Guys! No more pillow fights. It’s time for bed.
Drake: Aww, daddy. Just a bit longer. I was about to win!
Kai: No. You’re supposed to be winding down for sleep, not getting riled up.
Dray isn’t happy about it but reluctantly stops and climbs to his bed. Leslie sits down on Mase’s bed.
Kai: Are you going to be okay in the sleeping bag?
Leslie: I’ll be okay.
Kai: Your aunt Me-Me and I will be down the hall if you need us. And your gran will be in the bedroom at the bottom of the stairs. Okay?
Leslie: Okay
Downstairs, Me-Me and Jalisa are finishing up a movie.
Melisa: I was thinking –
Jalisa: Not about me moving in, I hope.
Melisa: No, I respect your decision. I wanted to know if you would join me for a spa day tomorrow. Our treat!
Jalisa: A free spa day! How could I resist?
Melisa: Maybe Lia can join us.
Jalisa: That would be great. I wonder where that chile has been hiding? How come she hasn’t been by here to see me yet?
Melisa: Who knows with Lia? Maybe she’s busy at the restaurant.
Jalisa: Yeah, maybe.
Melisa: We’ll see her tomorrow, even if we have to hunt her down.
Jalisa: Good!
It’s close to midnight when Dub returns from his night out. I meet him at the door.
Kai: You’re back early.
Wade: We wanted to hang out at the pier after prom, but it was too cold.
Kai: I’m glad you got Perla back home at a decent hour, and I’m sure Mo is happy too.
Wade: Yeah
Kai: So, how was it?
Wade: It was incredible. I’m glad I went.
Kai: Good. But maybe you should avoid saying that to Mase.
Wade: Why?
I know that I need to tell Dub what’s been going on with Mase, but at the same time – I don’t want to put a damper on his amazing evening.
Kai: I’ll explain later. You must be tired. Let’s go to bed.
Wade: Okay

I just want to say that I am really enjoying this legacy story! I’ve been reading it for almost a year now, and only recently thought to check if there was a way to leave comments! The way that you write these characters is so lifelike and I have been hooked since generation 1! I am excited to be along for the ride, and I can’t wait to see where the next 7 generations go!!!
Every time I get an email saying this has updated I get so excited, though I usually wait for a few to pile up before I read them so I have more to read at once!
Thanks so much for your feedback! I love writing about this family, and I hope it shows. I’m just as excited to see what the next generations bring. Thanks again!
