I don’t know what to expect from Inata, but I’m disappointed when she leads me to a card game table. She invites my brothers over, and we all sit down.
Inata: You have not truly experienced Batuu until you’ve learned to play Sabacc.
Wade: Um, okay. I’ll take your word for it.
Inata: It’s a great way to win more Galactic Credits, but it’s not for the faint of heart – because it’s also a fast way to lose them.
Is she trying to test me? I’m up for the challenge.
Wade: It can’t be that difficult. Let’s do it.
Inata tells us the game’s rules and explains how it’s played.
Inata: You’ll pick up the rest as we go.
Since we’re playing for Credits, it would be nice not to have to learn on the fly, but I’m not about to back down.
The good news is Mase seems to pick up the game quickly. He wins several rounds before his beginner’s luck runs out. He loses the next few matches, which takes our Galactic Credits down from 200 to 53. By the time the game ends, I realize two things: Inata has hustled us, and she seems more interested in Mase than me.
Inata cashes in, taking our credits with her, then gets up from the table.
Inata: I won’t leave you completely broke. Thanks for the game!
Inata winks at Mase before getting up and returning to her seat at the bar. Maybe something good can come out of this.
Her eyes remain on Mase. She’s feeling him.
Wade: She likes you, Mase. You should go and talk to her.
Mason: But she’s way older than me.
Wade: So what? We’re away from home for the first time, and a pretty girl is making flirty eyes at you. If nothing else, it’ll be good practice.
Mason: You think I should?
Wade: Bro, yeah! Hurry up before someone else steps up to her.
Mason: *gathers his courage* Okay – I’m going!
Mase gets up from his chair, and I’ve never been prouder.
Wade: Don’t tell her you’re a high school student!
Mason: Not a high school student, got it!
Mase walks over and sits at the bar. He should be okay if he doesn’t try to order a drink. I watch for a while as he speaks to Inata, but I can’t hear what he says. I can only hope he’s not blowing it. Inata orders a drink. I begin praying that Mase doesn’t try ordering one. It’ll be a sure way for him to get kicked out of here.
I need to get closer in case he needs my help with Inata, so I join them at the bar – but I sit a few stools away so as not to shatter Mase’s confidence. Inata is smiling, so I’m guessing Mase is doing alright alone.
Since I’m here, I take the opportunity to ask a few questions about Batuu and the different factions present here. I get some good information, but suddenly Dray is on my mind. He’s been quiet, so I look for him, but he’s nowhere to be seen.
I get up and walk over to Mase.
Wade: Have you seen Dray?
Mason: No
Wade: Maybe he went to the restroom. Stay here – I’ll be right back.
I check the restrooms and don’t see Dray. I promised Dad I’d watch him, and he’s out of sight within hours. Slightly panicked, I return to Mase.
Wade: We need to find Dray!
I hurry out the door of the Cantina with Mase not far behind me. I immediately see Dray’s bright green hair, so I stop and take a deep, relieved breath. He’s talking to one of the Storm Troopers. Thank the Watcher!
Once the relief has dissipated, anger seeps in. I march over to my youngest brother.
Wade: What are you doing? Why did you leave the bar?
Drake: I was bored!
Bored? Yeah, I can see it. We still have a whole Amusement park to explore, but I’m sitting around wasting time playing matchmaker. Anybody would be bored with that.
Wade: I’m not trying to replace Dad on this trip, but you’re only 13. You can’t just be wandering around without me knowing. Let me know before you leave next time. Okay?
Yeah, I’m not Dad, but my tone’s still sharp. I’m not trying to get in trouble with our Dad for losing my little brother in Batuu.
Drake: Okay, but when are we going to do something exciting? We’re just sitting around playing card games. We can do that anywhere!
Wade: You’re right! Let’s return to Dwelling and freshen up; then, we can explore. Does that sound good to you?
Drake: Yeah, sure
We return to the Dwelling, use the restrooms, and refresh ourselves before heading back out to find something interesting to eat.
We settle for a meal at Docking Bay 7, which seems to have the best reviews. We all order something unique that we’ve never had before. The right food adds to the whole immersive experience.
Wade: Okay, now that we’ve eaten – you guys can explore independently. We’ll meet back at the Dwelling in two hours.
Mase and Dray seem to like the sound of that. We leave the dining area and head off in different directions.
I make a few must-see stops, snap some photos, and talk to other Batuu visitors to learn more about the different factions to plan our day for tomorrow. Then I hurry back to the Dwelling, glad to see Mase and Dray also returning on time.
