As I make my way home, I explore the docks near the house in search of more places to eat, a store to purchase much-needed items for my home, and more friendly faces. There are a few food stands, which is good to see, and a small restaurant. But to get closer to any of that, I’ll have to pass a gang of birds standing on the dock staring at me like members of a seabird mafia. I’m not in the mood to get chased or, even worst, shat on by a bird gang, so I turn and go the other way.

I walk down a ramp to a lower part of the dock. If I were a fisherman, this area would be great. Dad and possibly Dray would like to spend time out here trying to see what they can catch. It’s not my thing, so I leave, hoping to find a store. I run into two more people as I leave the docks. Neither of them are from the area. I’ve concluded that Brindleton is more of a tourist town than anything. But that’s not a bad thing. I’ve met people from all over the Sim World in just a few hours. These contacts will prove helpful as I explore other cities and towns.

I eventually locate a store nearby and purchase some things for the house. As I return home, I see more ‘gangsta’ birds and a few people up the street talking. I’m all peopled out, so I turn my attention to the “for sale” sign in front of my house. If I’m to make this place my home, I guess it’s time to remove it. So that’s what I do.

I walk through the front door and place the items I purchased and some pictures I took on the beach earlier.

I place a sizeable scenic picture of the Brindleton Bay bridge in the frame under the stairs. I think it’s pretty enough to share, so I upload a digital version to my social media account.

Finally, I sit down at my dinner table and try to get a head start on some of the work I’ll be required to complete once I begin my college courses. I can already see that next week will be hectic with two classes, my job, and other private pursuits.

My studies are interrupted by a phone call. I check the caller ID and see that it’s Dad. My heart flutters at just the sight of his name. I answer on the third ring.

Wade: *on the phone* Hey Dad!

Kai: *on the phone* Hey, Dub. I just thought I’d call to see how things are going.

I have a choice. I can whine like a little boy and reveal everything I hate about Brindleton Bay and tell him I’ve changed my mind and am ready to come home – or I can man up and focus on the nice things I discovered today. I recall that smirking expression that would spread across Dad’s face when I used to do something he’d deem as childish or spoiled. I don’t want him thinking of me that way now.

Wade: *on the phone* Everything is good! I enrolled in college last night. I start classes next week. And there’s this place called the Skills Academy that I found today where I can go and increase my fitness skills anytime I want – for free.

I tell Dad how pretty the beach is and how big and spacious the house is until I’ve convinced him that I’m doing well and that moving here was a great decision. By the time I’ve finished talking the place up and I get off the phone with him – I’ve also convinced myself. Maybe this place is growing on me after all.

I pick up my book and return to my studies. The more I read, the more excited I get about starting my college courses next week. Much of the stuff I’ll learn will help me with my budding social media career. More education should result in quicker advancement. Now I can see exactly why my parents stressed going to college.

It’s time to put a few of the things I just read to the test. I walk over to my new social media set-up and hit record.

Wade: *to the camera* Hey, SimTube! It’s your boy Dub! I’ve finally left Henford-On-Bagley and relocated to Brindleton Bay. Here are my thoughts on what it’s been like so far!

I talk about some things I’m beginning to like about the town, but I balance it by listing a few things I dislike because people seem to enjoy a little negativity.

I don’t upload the video right away. After some heavy editing, I’ll decide if I even want to post it tomorrow.

I’ve had a productive day. I want to finish it with a meal just a little more elevated than instant ramen. So, I heat the new waffle maker that I purchased today, look up a good recipe in a cookbook I also bought, and try my first attempt at waffles. To my surprise, they come out looking tasty. I make them look even better with a satisfying amount of butter and syrup.

And they taste good, too! I finish them quickly, noting that a plate full of waffles, butter, and syrup will probably negate all my effort at the gym today. Oh well, I’ll work harder tomorrow. I decide that it’s worth it as I clean up my mess. I finally head to bed, feeling much better about being here alone than yesterday. Hopefully, next week will be even better.
