Our party guests have been generous in providing everything the baby will need. I suspect my parents are responsible for purchasing a good chuck of it. Maia and I are directed to the gift table to open our gifts. My cousin Terra comes over with yet another gift. I can tell that Maia is almost overwhelmed by all the love everyone has shown her. She deserves it.
The party is winding down, but I want to talk to Dwight again before we leave.
Wade: So, about that ring – how quickly can you make one?
Dwight: It depends on what you’re looking for. I can make a diamond engagement ring in a couple of hours.
Wade: I don’t think Maia would appreciate a diamond as much as most women. But I don’t want my engagement ring to look cheap either.
Dwight: I can help with that. What’s her favorite color?
Wade: Green
Dwight: There’s a rare green crystal that I can use, but I might need your help finding it. We’d have to hunt it down.
Wade: Hunt it down? What do you mean?
Dwight: There’s an old mine located in Oasis Springs. I’ve been dying to get in there, but it’s been boarded up for years, and it’s almost impossible for one man to get through alone. With your help, I think we can pull it off.
Wade: Is that even legal?
Dwight: There’s nothing saying it isn’t.
Wade: Well, I’ll do anything. Just name the time and place.
Dwight: Maybe we can start looking this weekend?
Wade: Maia’s dad is coming this week –
What am I saying? I have no idea how long Clyde plans to stay; this might be my chance to escape him for a while.
Wade: This weekend might be perfect. But only if I can get away after the baby comes.
Maybe having Clyde around would help. Maia wouldn’t be at home alone with the baby.
Dwight: Just let me know, and I’ll make myself available.
Wade: Okay, will do!
The last thing we do to bring this party to a close is shoot off the celebration canon, which doesn’t turn out so well. But the party is still a success. Maia musters up the energy to open one last gift, although I can tell that she’s exhausted.
I walk over to my cousins, Terra and Bri, to say goodbye.
Brianna: Let’s get together again soon.
I recall her slip-up earlier.
Wade: Definitely, because I feel there’s something you’re not telling us.
Brianna: All will be revealed in time.
I’ve held on to a few secrets, so I can respect that.
I move over and give Ma a tight squeeze.
Wade: Thank you so much for putting this together. You made Maia very happy.
Melisa: Good, you both deserve all the happiness in the world. We want to know as soon as the baby is born.
Wade: You’ll be the first!
The party is over, and Maia and I have some good memories to look back on and share with the baby. It’s time to go home.
At home in bed, Maia and I sit and reflect on the party.
Maia: No one has ever done anything so nice for me. I never even had birthday parties growing up.
Wade: No? Why not?
Maia: My father couldn’t afford it. He used to say he wasn’t about to spend a month’s worth of groceries feeding everybody in town, only for us to starve until the next payday.
Wade: Sorry to hear that.
Maia: Don’t get me wrong. We celebrated. My father always did the best he could. It was usually in the form of a special meal – like a barbeque and a gift.
Wade: This baby will get a party every birthday.
Maia: It doesn’t have to be every birthday, but having at least one big party will be nice- something to remember.
Wade: Yeah, I guess so.
Wade: Have you thought of any names you like?
Maia: I did some research today. I know I want something with a special meaning. And…
Maia trails off.
Wade: What’s on your mind?
Maia: If it’s a girl, I’d like to include my mother’s name – maybe as a middle name. I don’t know.
Wade: What was her name?
Maia: Elise
Wade: Elise? I like it.
Maia: Yeah, me too.
Wade: What about if we have a boy? My Dad suggested my grandfather’s name, Quincy.
Maia: Quincy? Do you know what it means?
Wade: No, but we can look it up.
Maia: Quincy Banks – doesn’t it sound a little uppity?
Wade: Is that a bad thing? It sounds successful, like someone who runs a corporation.
Maia stops to think about it for a while.
Maia: That’s true.
Maia repeats the name.
Maia: Yeah, I like it. We can add it to our list of possibilities.
Maia finally stops fighting her fatigue and goes to sleep. I should be asleep, too, but I climb out of bed and set up my camera.
Wade: *in front of the camera* Hey, SimTube, it’s your boy Dub. It’s late, but I had some things on my mind that I wanted to talk about. From the title, I’m sure you already guessed what it is. Yep, I’m going to be a Dad. *chuckles* Even saying that out loud now seems strange because part of me feels so unworthy. I was lucky to meet this gorgeous woman, and now we’re having a baby together – an entire sim baby. Then I start thinking about everything my parents did for me over the years – all the things they taught me. And now, I’ll be expected to do the same for a new sim. I have to be honest; I’m a little overwhelmed. It’s a big change.
Wade: *continues* But as I said in an earlier video, change doesn’t have to be bad. And so help me, Watcher, I’ll work harder at this than I’ve ever worked. This baby is already the joy of my world. And I would give my very life to ensure this baby will have nothing but happiness in their life. I guess that’s it. I’ll be back soon to announce when our new baby has been born. See you soon!
I end the video and take it straight into my editing program. After it has been edited and uploaded, I stare at the blank screen in front of me as I attempt to plan and think about everything I want to do for my future child.
