Reminder: This is my very first Sims 4 family, which was originally posted starting in 2015. I’m in the process of moving these posts over from my Tumblr page. See more info here!

There is only one restaurant in Brindleton Bay, so deciding where to go is a no-brainer. Carla, Ajay, and Dexter take their places at a table outside. Carla and Ajay looks at their menus, but Dexter just sits there staring straight ahead.
Carla: *to Dexter* Do you know what you want to eat?
Dexter: I’m not hungry.
Carla: You have to eat something. How about some french fries?
Dexter: *doesn’t have the energy to argue* Yeah…okay
The waiter walks over and Carla gives him their orders. The waiter takes note and walks away.
Dexter: I need to run to the restroom.
Carla: Okay…we’ll be right here.

Dexter gets up and walks away.
Adwin-Jamie: *pulls out his phone* Can I show you something?
Carla: Yeah…sure
Ajay pulls up a website on his phone, then hands it over to Carla.
Carla: What am I looking at?
Adwin-Jamie: It’s an empty lot that I’m thinking about buying. I discovered it today.
Ajay doesn’t say much more than that. He doesn’t want his mom to know how long he’d actually been back in town.
Carla: It’s nice! Right on the beach?
Adwin-Jamie: Yep…the view is so pretty. I’ll wake up to the sounds of the ocean every morning!
Carla: *hands back the phone* But there’s no house. Will you have one built?
Adwin-Jamie: *evasive* Something like that.

Carla: I’d like to see it.
Adwin-Jamie: If all goes to plan…I’ll be moving in a few days. How long will you be in town?
Carla doesn’t question how he’ll move in a few days when there’s no house, but the question does cross her mind.
Carla: Until after the New Year. I’m staying with Dexter to make sure he’s not spending the holiday alone. I’ll leave Sunday.
Dexter returns to the table and sits back down right on cue.
Adwin-Jamie: I’ll make sure that everything is ready before you leave then.
Carla is a bit confused, feeling that Ajay is leaving something out.
Carla: Uh…okay. Yeah

The food arrives. Carla looks up at Ajay every once in a while with a curious expression on her face, but other than that…they eat in silence. Dexter picks at his fries…taking a bite of one every once in a while until he eventually finishes. Ajay eats fairly quickly…happy to have some real food after only eating mostly tofu and fruit for the past 3 days.
After Ajay finishes, he gets up to leave…feeling that he’d better head home soon.

Ajay walks over to Dexter to say goodbye; quickly realizing that he’s not very good at offering words of comfort. Saying goodbye to his mom is a lot easier. She gives him another hug and whispers in his ear…
Carla: See you before I leave.
Ajay leaves the restaurant and walks down the boardwalk towards home.

The house is a bit chaotic as usual when Ajay arrives home. There’s so much going on that Adwin almost doesn’t even notice when Ajay steps into the house. But when he does, he hurries over and greets him with a hug.

Adwin: How was your trip?
Adwin-Jamie: Cold…very cold, but I survived.
Adwin: We were worried sick about you!
Adwin-Jamie: Mom told me. After I found out about g-ma – I just needed time to myself to sort it out.
Adwin: Well, you should have texted back to at least tell us you were okay. I thought I was going to have to come out to Granite Falls and drag you back.
Adwin-Jamie: Sorry dad.

Adwin: *continues fussing* And it’s a shame you missed the funeral. I thought your ride was scheduled to bring you back in plenty of time. What happened?
Ajay decides to tell the truth.
Adwin-Jamie: I was here – on time…but I didn’t want to be around a bunch of other people. I went after it was all over and I ran into mom and Papa Dex. We went and grabbed something to eat after.
Adwin: *deep sigh* I guess you have to deal with things your own way…but everybody was asking about you!
Adwin-Jamie: Sorry dad *slight pause*…I really need to pee –
Adwin: Go…we’ll talk more later.
Ajay passes the twins as he heads towards the bathroom.

Mina and the twins head upstairs to pick out a bedtime book. Ajay returns to the living room; happy to see that his pet Hedgehog is still alive and well.

Ajay and Adwin sit down to finish their talk.
Adwin: After the funeral, I went to the office for a few hours. I found out that there’s an opening in the mail room. If you applied, I’m sure you’d be able to get a job there…with my recommendation of course!
The last thing Ajay would ever want to do is work in some stuffy mail room. It’s totally against the plans he has for his life.
Adwin-Jamie: Thanks, but there’s something else that I want to do.
Adwin: Okay…let’s hear it.
Adwin-Jamie: There’s this empty lot on the beach that I plan on buying.
Adwin remains silent waiting for Ajay to say more, but he doesn’t.
Adwin: That’s it? You want to buy an empty lot? Son, that’s not exactly a life plan. What about starting a career…or at least getting a job?
Adwin-Jamie: That’s the thing, dad. If I buy this lot…my plan is to live simply, that way I won’t need much money. When I do need money…I can make it in alternative ways. Maybe I can return to Selvadorado to seek out treasures or make money growing crops or fishing. I can even travel to local towns and find collectibles and make money that way.

Adwin: That’s awfully idealistic. You do realize that travel takes money, right? You can’t make money by traveling if you don’t have money.
Adwin-Jamie: I’ll figure it out, dad. Being out there in Granite Falls in the middle of winter was life-changing. I found out a lot about myself…and I met this hermit –
Adwin: So…that’s what this is about? You want to be a hermit?
Adwin-Jamie: No…not a hermit exactly, but I want to be free! I don’t want to be stuck in a 9 – 5 job. I want to explore and live my life outdoors.
Adwin isn’t convinced that any of what Ajay is saying is a good idea. To him…it sounds like his son wants to be a bum, but he promised himself that he’d support his son’s dreams**… no matter how wacky they seem
Adwin: *gives in* Okay…it’s your life. Just remember that you always have a home here if things don’t go to plan. I’ll give you some money to start out, but the rest will be up to you! *warning tone* Don’t make me regret it!
Adwin-Jamie: Thanks, dad!

While Adwin and Ajay are talking…Mina reads the twins their bedtime story.
Mina: *reading* The pig, piggity, pig, dances a jig, jiggity, jig. And with a jump and a boink, counts three ducks with a –
Opus and Marvel: *finishes together* Oink, Oink, Oink!
Mina continues reading; realizing that the twins pretty much have this book memorized.

Ajay walks to the stairs, ready to end this trying day. Adwin stops him…
Adwin: Hold up son! I almost forgot to give you your Winterfest gift.
Ajay didn’t expect to receive anything.
Adwin-Jamie: What is it?
Adwin: You have to open it.
Ajay opens the lid and peaks inside. His father has given him a nice set of earbuds and a big box of condoms.
Adwin-Jamie: What is this?
Adwin: Something I should have given you a long time ago. You would think that I would have learned from my dad’s mistakes.
Adwin-Jamie: Uh…thanks.
Adwin: Believe me son…you may think that you don’t need them now, but there will come a time when you will. I just want you to be prepared. Okay?
Adwin-Jamie: Um, yeah…okay.

Ajay hurries up to his bedroom before his dad starts trying to give the woohoo talk. Ajay can’t imagine wanting to avoid anything more than that in his life. Meanwhile, Mina and Adwin take the twins upstairs and get them changed and ready for bed.
