It’s Mason’s birthday. So when I wake up to change him early in the morning, I figure it’s an excellent time to help him age up (with the Inquisitive aspiration). It’s hard to believe that our baby is already a toddler.

Without bothering to wake Me-Me, I give him a quick early morning snack and put him back in bed for the rest of the morning.

(Poor baby has the toddler same face bug. But it’s not his fault, so we’ll just love him anyway.🥰 But hopefully, there’s a fix on the way!)

Not long after his little brother ages up, Dub gets up – still beaming from his birthday the day before. He goes downstairs and is surprised to see a stack of gifts that he never managed to open yesterday at his party. He opens the small ones but is unimpressed with the socks and clothes he received. It’s the big box that has him excited. It’s a Motion Monitor Gaming Mat.

Dub is thrilled to find out that the gift came from his grandmother. He gives her a big hug.

Wade: Thank you, granny!

Prosperity: You’re more than welcome.

The two are sitting down eating breakfast when Dub asks an interesting question.

Wade: Granny, are we rich?

Prosperity: Rich? Why would you ask that?

While Dub gets his thoughts together, Peri gets up to clean their dirty dishes.

Wade: We live in the biggest house, and we have a lot of things.

Peri is amazed that a child so young would even notice that.

Peri gives this a lot of thought before she answers. She thinks about her mother, Alida, who grew up in a foster home with no money but still had a rich life of good friends and people who loved her growing up.

Prosperity: True. We live in a big house and have a lot of things, but that makes us financially secure. Being rich is not just about things; it’s about having a great family and friends.

Wade: Well, when I grow up, I will have lots of things and an even bigger house.

Peri sits down next to Dub.

Prosperity: Are you listening, honey? Having lots of things won’t keep you company during hard times and is not what’s going to make you happy in the long run.

Wade: But it’ll make me happy right now, granny. I’m going to play with my gaming mat.

Dub gets up and heads upstairs, leaving Peri in the kitchen wondering where Wade is picking up these types of thoughts. He isn’t even in school yet.

Dub goes to his room and clears space for his new toy. As he plays, he thinks about how being rich is where it’s at. Only rich people get to enjoy things like this.

He’s in the middle of clearing his 2nd round of virtual blocks when his mom comes up to interrupt him.

Melisa: Dubbie, it’s time to get dressed. I want you to come outside with me and help with the chickens.

Wade: But I’m playing with my birthday gifts right now, mommy!

Melisa: Guess what? Birthdays may give, but moms can take away – and I’ll take it all away if you don’t listen when I tell you to do something.

Wade: *reluctant tone* Okay

Dub does as his mom says and follows her outside to the fenced chicken area of the backyard.

Melisa: Please keep the chickens occupied while I grab the eggs and clean the coop. Can you do that for me?

Wade: Yes, mommy.

Dub finds it fun to play with the chickens – and the bunnies, too, now that he’s no longer afraid of them.

Ma is busy working on learning a new skill when I join her in the front room with my breakfast in hand. I know today is the grand opening of her art center, but I think she’d like to be a part of the plans that I’m hoping to surprise Me-Me and the kids with.

Kai: So, ma, I rented a house in Tartosa for the new few days. I was hoping you’d like to come with us.

Prosperity: Sounds nice, but you know the grand opening of my art center is today.

Kai: Yes, we’re coming with you to visit it before we leave for Tartosa.

Prosperity: There will be a lot for me to do, so I’ll have to pass. You need time alone with your family anyway.

Kai: Yeah, but what will you do while we’re away?

Ma gets up and moves over to the couch next to me.

Prosperity: I’m perfectly capable of entertaining myself, Kai. I’ve been doing that long before you were even born. I have some classes that I’ll be teaching all week at the center, so don’t worry about me. Go and enjoy your family.

Kai: Okay, ma.

I go upstairs to find Me-Me, so I can fill her in on what I have planned.

Kai: You know how we talked about spending some time in Tartosa for the summer?

Melisa: Yeah

Kai: Well, I took the initiative and rented us a house there for the next few days. That is – if you’re still interested in going.

Melisa: Of course I’m interested. The kids would love that.

I glance down at Mase and Dub. Mase is sitting on the potty, and Dub is reading him a story. It’s nice to see Dub being such a good big brother.

Mase jumps up to celebrate after finally peeing and pooping in the potty. I sit on his bed to make the final arrangements for the rental on my phone.

Melisa: When do we leave?

Kai: Well, I promised ma that we’d attend her grand opening, then we can head to Tartosa after that.

Melisa: Okay, sounds good. I’ll get Mason ready.

Me-Me changes Mase out of pajamas, and I shell out the §5,000 that this rental will cost us. It’s not cheap, but there’s a pool, and it will get us out of the house for three days, so it’s worth it.
