Me-Me goes outside to put her newly learned robotics skills to the test. Her work on a new Fix-It bot is successful until she accidentally crosses the wrong wire and a big electrical surge shocks her enough to make her dizzy. She decides to give it a rest for the remainder of the day.
Peri helps with nighttime chores, and Me-Me comes inside in search of a safer activity. She looks in the refrigerator, sees all the extra fruit stored there, and decides to try canning. So she starts out creating a watermelon conserve.
I’m on bed and bath duty for the evening while Me-Me gets some work done. Mase needs a good washing in the tub after running around all day near the cow shed. But I end up just as wet as he is by the time he’s done splashing and playing.
Then it’s story time for Mase and Dub. They listen intently while I read a toddler book called “Driving to Mars.” I would have thought that Dub had outgrown these bedtime stories, but I’m secretly glad he hasn’t.
Kai: *reading* The space boat passes three comets, counting them 1-2-3. Pete glances out the space portal, but what does he see?
Mason: He sees the moon.
Wade: No, not the moon, Mase. He saw Mars!
Kai: Nope, not the moon or Mars. *continues reading* He saw a strange space tree!
Wade: *giggles*
After the story, Mase is more than ready for bed, but Dub insists that he needs a snack first. So he heads downstairs to the kitchen.
I put Mase in his bed and tuck the blankets snuggly around him.
Kai: Good night, Mase. Sweet dreams, daddy loves you!
Mason: Night, daddy! Sweet dreams, Masey loves you!
I swear these boys are my weakness. It doesn’t take much for them to bring a tear to my eye.
Dub sits down at the counter.
Wade: Mommy, I’m hungry!
Me-Me is working on making an apple preserve.
Melisa: Try that jar of watermelon conserve for me and tell me what you think.
Dub is more than happy to help. He grabs the jar and walks over to the couch.
Dub sits down and opens the jar. He tries one spoon full of the conserve and is instantly in love.
Wade: It’s so good, mommy!
Melisa: *smiles* I’m glad you like it!
Me-Me gathers up Drake and his bassinet and prepares to take him upstairs with her.
Melisa: I want you in bed as soon as you finish that, Dubbie.
Wade: Yes, mommy.
Dub finishes the whole jar and gets up to go to bed as his mommy instructed.
Wade: *to Peri* Good night, granny.
Prosperity: Good night, sweetheart.
Ma and I are the last to go to bed, as usual. But, like Dub, I need a snack before I turn in for the night. So I grab a jar of Me-Me freshly prepared apple preserve and sit down across from ma to enjoy it while everyone else climbs into bed.
