It’s the middle of the night, so Me-Me gives baby Dray one last late-night feeding. Then he ages up to a toddler (with the Wild aspiration).
Me-Me is extra tired, so I take it upon myself to make sure Dray gets a bedtime story and is tucked away, in bed, for the night.
As daylight begins to shine through his window, Dray wakes up and climbs out of bed. The house is quiet; he leaves his bedroom and stands in the hallway staring at all the doors. One of them has to lead to something interesting. He opens one and is happy with his choice.
There’s a lot of fun to have with the water container next to the door. Dray immediately goes to it and begins happily splashing.
Meanwhile, Dub and Mase also wake up. It’s time for them to get ready for school. Mase plans to use his parents’ bathroom while Dub heads for the one in the hallway. However, as soon as he opens the door, he sees Dray playing in the toilet.
Wade: Ewww! What are you doing?
Wade: *yells* Mommy! Drake is playing in the toilet!
Me-Me hurries into the bathroom to see why Dub is shouting.
Melisa: What’s going on?
Wade: I caught Drake splashing in the toilet.
Drake: *innocent baby babble*
Me-Me grabs Dray quickly.
Melisa: No, Dray! We don’t play in the toilet – that’s dirty.
Drake: Dirde?
Me-Me comes bounding down the stairs with Dray while I’m making a fruit parfait for breakfast.
Melisa: Can you keep an eye on him while I take a shower? Dubbie caught him playing in the toilet upstairs.
I’m shocked that Dray is even up so early. I just put him in bed a few hours ago.
I take Dray into the laundry room to the nearest toddler potty and sit him down, hoping for the best. The boys enter the kitchen, grab their breakfast, and sit at the table.
Mason: Dub, can I ask you a question?
Wade: Yeah, sure.
Mason: What’s school like? Will there be bullies like on TV?
Wade: Sometimes there are mean kids, but you don’t have to worry.
Mason: Why not?
Wade: Because I’m your big brother, I won’t let anything happen to you!
Mason: *reassured* Okay
I listen in on the boy’s conversation from the laundry room, feeling proud of Dub for stepping up as big brother.
Mase has one more question as they get up from the table and walk toward the front door together.
Mason: What about when you go to high school, and I’m all alone at my school?
Wade: They still won’t mess with you. Just tell them who your big brother is – everyone knows I’m tough!
Mason: Okay. I feel better now.
Me-Me comes downstairs in time to see the boys out the door,
Melisa: See you later, Dubbie. Have a good first day of school, Mase!
Mason: I will, mommy because my big brother is tough!
Me-Me isn’t sure what that means, but she’s glad to hear the optimism coming from Mase.
Me-Me carries Dray to his high chair.
Melisa: What was that all about?
Kai: What?
Melisa: The ‘my big brother is tough’ thing?
Kai: Mase was afraid that there would be bullies at school and Dub said he’d protect him.
Melisa: Oh – that’s a good thing.
Kai: Yeah, it is. I’m proud of Dub. He’s finally embracing his role.
Peri wakes up, glad to see another day, but it’s unsettling not knowing which one will be her last. Today she’ll have an important conversation with Kai. She wasn’t prepared to lose either one of her parents. Both deaths were a huge blow, but she’ll prepare Kai, Me-Me, and the boys for her demise.
