Me-Me is thrilled to have a day off from work finally. She could use the day to study and try to increase her skills for a promotion, but she’d rather spend this time with her family. So she walks up to Dub and gives him a big hug.
Melisa: How was your first day of high school, Dubbie?
Wade: Boring, but I made it through.
Melisa: Well, every day won’t be exciting, but as long as you show up and work hard – it’ll pay off in the end.
Wade: I hope so.
Me-Me spends a few moments with the family dog, Belle, while Dub begins his homework. Then she peels Dray away from his tablet and takes him outside for fresh air and exercise.
Winter is fast approaching, so our trip to Mt. Komorebi will be coming soon. I call up Mo and Stefan and invite them over so we can train for our big climb. It’s Stef’s first time training with us, so we give him first dibs on the climbing treadmill. Mo and I watch as he climbs. We can see that he has skills, but it’s equally evident that he’s out of practice.
Kai: We have a lot of work to do before getting ready for this trip.
Maurice: Yeah, that’s true!
Stef is unable to complete the endurance challenge climb, so Mo steps up to give it a shot while I reassure Stef.
Stefan: It has been a while since I climbed.
Kai: That’s okay. You can come by as much as you want to train. We still have plenty of time to be ready for Mt. Komorebi.
While Stef and I are talking, Mo ends up slipping and falling off the treadmill. He also fails to complete the challenge. I step up next, determined to show them how to do it, but I also fail. It seems to be an off day for all of us.
It’s time for the guys to leave, but we make promises to get together as much as possible before attempting the big climb. Unfortunately, at this point, it seems that none of us are ready.
It’s nearing the end of the day before we get a chance to celebrate Spooky Fest. So we dress in our costumes and set up a spot under the big tree outside for a small Spooky Fest movie night. Mase walks up to ma.
Mason: You’re not dressed up, gran. You’re supposed to put on a costume.
Prosperity: I’m dressed as a painter.
Mason: That’s not a costume. That’s you every day. You have to put on a real costume.
Ma gives Mase a big hug.
Prosperity: Okay, baby. I’ll find a costume right now.
Ma comes back with a long black dress and a black hood – looking like the Grim Reaper, which is what I’m sure she was going for. Our cousin Bri, Uncle Merit’s youngest daughter, is right behind her. We’re happy she has come to join our little party.
Prosperity: I’m so glad to see you again, Bri. You and your sister should come around more.
Brianna: I will, Aunt Peri. I promise.
We turn on a cheesy werewolf movie. Mase sits entranced at his first horror experience.
Mason: It’s so scary, but I can’t stop watching!
Meanwhile, little Dray is over it all. It’s way past his bedtime.
Ma volunteers to take him upstairs to bed. I have a feeling that she’s over it all too.
Bri excuses herself to use our bathroom before she leaves to go home.
Brianna: *to Dub* See you at school tomorrow?
Wade: Most definitely!
Dub seems thrilled to have someone he knows attend the same prep school as him. Unfortunately, all of his primary school friends go to the local public school, so he’s forced to meet new people at school.
It’s past Mase’s bedtime too, but we allow him to stay up long enough to carve a pumpkin and have a small treat before bed. After that, we all head inside for some much-needed sleep.
