Part 3 – The Sound of Frogs

It’s a new day, and the weather has finally gotten warmer in Brindleton Bay. This puts Maia in a happier/ more productive mood. She’s determined to make some progress on her goals because now she can see an end in sight. She has a lot planned for the day, but she begins with more frog breeding and giving love to her chicks.

After that, she sets off for the Skills Academy to meet up with the other members of the Pond Beautification Committee.

The volunteers for the committee arrive at the same time. Pierce, Solomon, and Monica** have already accomplished a lot toward making the pond a more inviting place.

They all greet one another, but Pierce walks by, ensuring his greeting stands out above the others.

Pierce: Hey, Maia!

Maia: Hi, Pierce. *to Monica and Solomon* This looks so good already. I can’t wait to come out here to study and practice yoga.

Monica: Same, but we still have so much work to do. How’s the frog research coming along?

Maia: It’s coming. Not as fast as I’d like, but I’ll try to get a lot more done today.

Monica: Let me know if I can help in any way.

Maia: Just making the pond a better place for them to live is enough.

Monica: We’re on it!

Pierce and Solomon scatter to plan what new vegetation needs to be added around the pond while Monica stays close to Maia to watch her catch frogs.

After catching a few frogs, Monica watches Pierce and Solomon walk around to the other side of the pond until they are safely out of earshot.

Monica: So, Pierce has been asking me about you.

Maia: What about?

Monica: He wanted to know if you were seeing anyone. I think he likes you.

That’s surprising to Maia. He has been extra friendly with her, but it never dawned on her that it might be more than being cordial.

Maia: Really?

Monica: Is it okay if I give him your number?

Maia doesn’t have time to date, but she figures it won’t hurt to have a friend – especially a like-minded friend who cares about this pond project.

Maia: Sure, but I have to go. I have way too much to do today.

Monica: Okay, see you around.

Maia turns and hurries off with just a bit more pep.

Maia leaves campus and grabs her bike, making a mental list of everything she hopes to do today. She plans to visit San Myshuno and maybe revisit Willow Creek to check out a rumor she found online about a hidden spot where she can find more frogs.

It’s a long bike ride to San Myshuno, but Maia rides along, fueled by hope and accomplishment. The weather is even warmer there, which makes the slowly pedaled miles worth it. She’s hoping to discover some rarer species of frog here, but even the more common species brings her closer to her goal and adds to her collection.

Maia is pleased with her progress in San Myshuno. She has successfully collected several new frog species. Her army of frogs is growing, bringing endless possibilities for breeding.

After a few hours, she’s exhausted the frog resources here, so it’s time to hop on her bike and make her way to Willow Creek, but before she can, she receives a text from Piece asking her to attend a festival.

Maia is intrigued and very interested in knowing what it would be like to spend some time with him, but she can’t be distracted from her goal.

Maia’s Text: Thanks, but I can’t right now. I’m out of town.

Pierce’s Text: where r u?

Maia is about to respond, but she decides it might be nice to send him a selfie too. She doesn’t want him to think she’s trying to blow him off.

Maia’s Text: I’m in sunny San Myshuno!

Pierce’s Text: Let me share some sunshine with you. I can meet you there.

That makes Maia smile, but unfortunately, she has to turn him down.

Maia’s Text: Maybe next time

Maia is reluctant to leave San Myshuno behind. This city has always held a special place in her heart, but it’s time to go, so she makes her way to the next town. Her legs are burning upon her arrival in Willow Creek. But she pushes on until she finds what she’s looking for – the mysterious tree next to the river in a quiet Willow Creek suburb.

Maia follows some precise instructions until she arrives in the Sylvan Glade. She cannot believe this place exists beyond the made-up creative images in her head. It feels like a dream.

Maia stops and meditates on the scenery for several minutes, thinking she might bring Pierce here one day. As soon as the thought crosses her mind, she flicks it away, knowing it’s essential for her to stay focused.

The bike ride home will be long and twice as tiring after such a long day. Maia works fast to collect what she needs. She ends the search with two rare frogs and several other varieties. This visit has been worth it.

Maia is exhausted by the time she enters her home. After a quick shower, she gathers up enough energy to prepare dinner. She has made significant progress towards completing her goal and ends the evening reading a sweet little goodnight text from Pierce.
