Banks Dynasty – Day 10.4

It’s an unseasonably hot fall morning, so I return to the skills academy for a jog around the lake. I pass that Violet girl again when I arrive on campus and make it a point to avoid her. I arrive at the lake and pick up my speed. The ducks are quacking, frogs are croaking, and the sun is warm on my skin. I can’t imagine this morning getting any better.

But as I’m rounding the lake for the second time, I’m stopped in my tracks by a girl standing near the art building. I don’t even know what captured my attention. Maybe I’m just desperate to meet someone nice around here. She has short hair, which isn’t my thing, but as I step closer, I can see her face is gorgeous.

I’m standing there staring with my mouth open – completely uncool, wondering why this woman has unnerved me. But why not? Despite the country outfit she has on, she has flawless skin and a shapely body. Suddenly, she waves.

Maia: Hi. How are you? I’m Maia.**

Wade: Maia? Hi, sorry for blanking out like that. I’m Wade.

She smiles with slightly imperfect teeth, something else I usually don’t like. But, on her, they are beautiful.

Maia: It’s nice to meet you.

Wade: You too. Let me guess, you’re not from Brindleton Bay.

Maia: No, I’m not.

Dang – just what I thought.

(Yes, that Maia)

I’m almost ready to give up on the entire conversation, but then she continues –

Maia: But I live here now.

Is luck finally on my side? She’s pretty, she’s friendly, and she lives here?

Wade: You do? Me too – I just moved here two days ago.

Maia: No wonder I haven’t seen you around before. I’m here on campus all the time.

Then I’ll be here too. But right now, I must leave or be late for work.

Wade: Maybe I’ll see you around.

Maia: Maybe

We say our goodbyes, and I hurry off.

But as I’m hurrying away, I want to kick myself. Why didn’t I ask for her cell number? That would have only taken an extra minute or two. Instead, I run off like a real chump.

But all is not lost, right? There’s always social media, the modern tool for stalkers and dummies who run off without a cell number. I pull out my phone and look for her on Simstagram and the Social Bunny app. There can’t be that many Maias here in Brindleton Bay, right?

I’m right, there aren’t many Maia’s. There aren’t any – including the Maia I just met. But maybe I spelled it wrong. Is it Maya, Maiya, Miyah, or Mya? I try every variation I can think of with no luck.

Damn. I hope I’m on campus at the right time to run into her again.

I did something impulsive after I left work. I purchased a dog. I don’t know what got into me. I was leaving the office, feeling stressed, and noticed that the weather had taken a turn. Luckily, I checked the forecast and saw that it would be one of those ‘mysterious weather’ days, so I came prepared.

On the corner was a guy with several dogs in travel crates. He told me they were previous ‘puppy mill’ dogs that never sold. He added that any dog not sold would be sent to a shelter by the end of the day. Was he telling the truth or just saying it as a sales tactic? I don’t know. Either way, it worked, and I looked at the dogs, noticing that they were purebred, adult dogs.

This particular one captured my heart right away. It’s a male Shiba Inu, and there’s no way he was going to a shelter. So I purchased him. His name is Hiro.

I put Hiro on a leash and walk to the pier for something good to eat. The bird mafia is blocking the way again, so Hiro and I turn toward the nearby food stand. I step up and purchase a Lobster Roll, although I’m initially hesitant. I mean – who buys lobster from a food stand? One bite and all my prejudice slips away as I realize I’ve just tasted the best thing I’ve ever eaten.

With a belly full of lobster, mayo, butter, the softest roll ever created – I guide Hiro back to the house. He seems to be a pretty easygoing dog. But just as I’m thinking that buying him was a good decision, he lifts his leg and pisses all over my shoe.

Wade: *looks at Hiro* Really? You just ruined a perfectly good pair of shoes.

We walk to the house, but the shoes stay outside, destined for the dumpster.

I shower and scrub my feet at least three or four times, then find Hiro relaxing on my living room couch.

Wade: You could have waited until I washed you before you made yourself at home on my couch.

I can’t be mad at him. He’s too cute, just like Belle. I pull out my notebook and study for my classes, which start tomorrow.

After completing my work, it’s time for job number three – and that’s to edit the video I created yesterday. After a second look, I decide that it’s worth posting. Once I have perfected it – I upload it. Now, I’ll have to wait and see how it does.
