Banks Dynasty – Day 11.4

I wake the following day, organizing all my tasks into a mental checklist. First on the list are the two college courses I’ll be taking at the Foxbury satellite campus – which isn’t far from my house. On top of my classes, I also have assignments to complete for my job, homework, and hopefully, some time to start a new SimTube video. All of this will carry me well into the night. I don’t even know where eating and sleeping will fit.

Still, I want to start my day right, so I put Hiro on a lease, and we go out into the crisp fall morning for a jog.

We barely make it past the house because Hiro stubbornly decides that he’s taking a break. I don’t have time for this. It takes a bit of coaxing, but eventually, we break into a decent run. Near the docks, a lady is running towards me. She has short hair like Maia, and I hold my breath, hoping it’s her, but as she gets closer, I see that it isn’t. With all I have to do today, I know I have no hope of running into her.

I change for class, say goodbye to Hiro, and leave with barely enough time. I can only hope that Hiro behaves himself while I’m away. I don’t want to come home to a nasty surprise.

But my hopes are dashed when I step into my front door and spot a large puddle on the floor. I grab a mop, unable to guess if it’s pee or just water. It’s gross either way.

Wade: C’mon now, Hiro – cleaning up after you is not what I want to do right now.

Hiro: *soft whine*

I clean up the puddle and finally notice that my house is unusually dark and quiet. Something is wrong. I walk over to my coffee pot and press the power button, but it doesn’t turn on. I check my email and see that the power company shut my utilities off because I forgot to pay my bill. I’ll never get anything done at this rate.

I check my list of bills. I’ve only been here a few days; why is it so high? And what the hell are lot taxes? It doesn’t matter; I have to pay up if I want power, so I do. In less than an hour, my power is restored.

Now, it’s time to begin my other tasks. To my surprise, my bowling professor has assigned a term paper on the history of bowling. I took bowling thinking it would be an easy class, but instead, it’s added heavily to my workload. I turn on my laptop and begin – hoping that I complete it on time to finish the assignments for my job.

My fancy private school education trained me well. I knock out the paper in record time. It’s still reasonably early, so I may have time to eat. Once again, I consult my new cookbooks and find an easy recipe for corndogs. I get started, but Dad calls while I am in the middle of my task. As much as I’d love to talk to him, I send it to voicemail.

Wade: *out loud to himself* Sorry, Dad, I’m way too busy.

My corndog comes out perfect, but apparently, Hiro disagrees. I offer him a piece, and he takes off running. I guess he’s better at watching what he eats than I am. I make another promise to myself to do better tomorrow.

I can barely enjoy my meal anyway because all I see is dust around me. I can only imagine all of the impurities Hiro and I have been breathing in all afternoon. Now I see why Dad would be up vacuuming at random times of night. I grab my brand-new vacuum and give the house a quick once over before finally finding time to start my assignments for my job.

It’s almost midnight before I complete everything. I do a few push-ups to make myself feel better about the greasy corndog I ate, but I know it would take a million of them to burn enough calories. Oh well, something is better than nothing.

It’s time for bed, but I take a moment to check SimTube to see how my video performed. It did well, and I made more money from it than I usually make from my job. Reflecting on everything I accomplished today, I realize I can’t go on like this. Something will have to give – especially if I want a chance at a social life.

Maybe I should take a chance and quit my job. I have the money plant Dad gave me, and if I spend more time on my SimTube videos, I’d make money on those as well. Would quitting make me a failure? I could use some good advice.
