Adwin thanks Ajay again and heads home. The house is unnaturally quiet when he gets there. It makes Adwin extremely nervous.
Adwin: Mina! Mina…are you here?
Adwin can imagine her taking the boys and leaving him. He prays that’s not the case.

Adwin tries not to panic prematurely. He heads upstairs and eventually finds her in their bathroom washing her hands.
Adwin: Hey babe! *tries to sound upbeat* Get changed! It’s Love Day. I’m going to take you out.
Mina: *turns off the water* I don’t wanna go.
Adwin: Babe…I t-thought, after last night –
Mina: What about it?
Adwin: You…we – uh, you said we could renew our vows and –
Mina: What you told me last night hurt, Adwin. More than you’d ever know. I had a hard time sleeping last night thinking about you…with – her!
Adwin: Give me a chance to fix it…please, Mina. I want to make it up to you. I arranged for the boys to spend a few hours with Ajay tonight. I’m going to get dressed and send them over. I’ll wait for you downstairs in case you change your mind. Babe…I’ll wait as long as it takes.

Adwin changes into his suit, sends Marvel and Opus to Ajay’s and heads downstairs just as he planned. He sits at his dad’s old piano…wishing he had at least attempted to learn to play back when his dad was around to teach him. He’s not there very long before Mina finally joins him downstairs.
Adwin: *turns to get a good look at her* You look incredible as always!
Mina: Thanks
Adwin: You need just one more thing though.
Adwin pulls out a beautifully wrapped gift and holds it out to her.

Mina takes it and opens the lid.
Mina: *gasps* This is expensive Adwin!
Adwin: I’d spend every dime I have for you, babe. You mean that much to me. Can I help you put it on?

Mina: Yeah…sure.
Mina turns to allow Adwin to place the expensive gift around her neck. He massages her shoulders a bit after fastening the clasp. His touch feels good, but her anger doesn’t allow her to completely relax. She turns back to face him.
Adwin: I really hope you like it.
Mina: I do…thank you.
Adwin appreciates the thanks, but Mina’s expression looks unmoved and hard. Her next words reveal why…
Mina: It’s a start.

Adwin and Mina arrive at the Old Salt House Restaurant in San Myshuno’s Spice District.
Adwin: Thank you for agreeing to do this. It means a lot.
Mina smiles, but her eyes don’t quite match. She looks to be on the verge of tears the whole time. Adwin gets it and it hurts him knowing that he’s the cause of it.
He walks up to the host who checks them in and shows them to their table.

Mina and Adwin study their menus in silence, but it’s not one of those amiable types of silences. It’s heavy and it weighs down on both of them. The only thing that relieves it for the moment is the waitress’ arrival to take their orders. They both order one of the experimental dishes that the Salt House is famous for and a glass of wine.

After the waitress leaves, Adwin decides that it’s time to approach the elephant in the room head-on.
Adwin: Baby…what can I do to win back your trust? It’s what I want more than anything, but I don’t know how to begin.
Mina: I honestly don’t know Adwin. I’m having a really hard time with this. I hear your version of what happened in Windenburg with Carla and I want to believe it, but in my head…I still have my own version. And I can’t shake it, no matter how hard I try. Maybe you can start by telling me the truth…the whole truth. But not just about what happened…I need to know why it happened.

Adwin: Okay babe…I’m going to do my best to explain what happened. I don’t know if you’d ever understand, but I pray you do.
Mina: Don’t try to make me understand. That’s not what I’m looking for. Just tell me the truth…the whole truth – your truth without holding back.
Adwin: *takes a deep breath and begins* Being around Carla for those two days was like a portal – a portal to the past…

The waitress brings their food, but Adwin doesn’t stop talking…
Adwin: I’m not talking about the past in the way you might be thinking. You already know that she was my friend…my only friend besides my cousins and my brother. I didn’t intentionally lie to you when I said I didn’t have feelings for her…I just didn’t realize it until I saw her again. But understand, it’s not the type of feelings that I have for you. Carla is like a link to when my parents were around. Being around her was like being transported back to when I’d wake up in the mornings and hear my dad playing piano. I could almost hear his voice again…singing loud and proud. And my mother…I could smell the fresh coat of paint that she’d put on a blank canvas. I was back to a time before I was abandoned by who I thought was the love of my life to raise a son alone. But Mina…it didn’t take me long to realize that that’s not truly what all of it was about. Those moments with Carla was really about saying goodbye to it all. You see…I wasn’t even home when my dad died. He was there that morning and gone by the time I came back. Then the very next morning…my mom joined him. *pauses and blinks back his tears*. Did I ever tell you that I was the one to find her? Days later…my brother left to move in with my Uncle Hollis. Carla was all I thought I had left, but I looked up one day and she was gone too. Once again…with no goodbye.
Adwin takes a moment to study Mina’s face. It’s softened and full of understanding. He goes on…
Adwin: I never had a chance to say goodbye to the most important people of my past until those days with Carla in Windenburg. But now I have. And I’m glad because you and the boys are my present and future. And you all deserve my full attention. I no longer have a need to look back and wonder ‘what if’ because the only thing to make all those losses worth it is knowing that it all led to you. I love you… I want you and Marvel and Opus. The past is back where it belongs and if you’re willing to stay by my side baby… I will never give you a reason to doubt me again. I swear on everything that’s important to me.

Mina takes a moment to digest what Adwin has said before she responds.
Mina: It’s not just about me doubting you. This whole thing has forced me to face my past too. My parents divorced when I was young because of a series of infidelities. I’d never been through so much pain in my life and I never wanted to go through that again. Suddenly here I am, slapped in the face with the situation again.
Mina pauses to let out a deep sigh and take a sip of her wine.
Mina: But Adwin…I get it. And I guess deep down inside, I already knew what it was all about. I made a vow to love you and that’s what I intend to do. And I’m willing to do whatever it takes because you’re worth that to me.
Adwin: I don’t deserve you. I truly don’t. And I’m sorry that I have caused you pain.
With that, Adwin and Mina finally take a moment to focus on their food and drinks.

The heaviness has finally lifted. The periodic silences are now littered with moments of light laughter and conversation.
Mina: This Moss Egg is good…it’s really good. Do you want to try a bit?
Adwin: *chuckles* No…you’re enjoying it way too much. I’m not about to take even one bite away from you.
Mina: I wonder what the heck a Moss egg is.
Adwin: Some things should remain a mystery.
Mina: Ha! That’s kinda true.

Mina and Adwin finish their meal and leave the table. Adwin steps over to Mina and gives her a single tulip.
Adwin: A rose is too cliche for this moment. You already know that I love you. I wanted to give you this tulip as a symbol of how much I truly care for you. I hope it can be a start of us rebuilding our friendship and trust.
Mina: Thank you…it means a lot to me.
Adwin pulls Mina in close and kisses her; grateful for this moment.

Adwin and Mina walk towards the door. Adwin stops suddenly and grabs Mina’s hands…
Adwin: I’m as happy as I was on the day you married me. I’m scheduled to take a trip to Willow Creek next week, but I want you to come with me. I’ll be staying at a Bed and Breakfast where a lot of weddings take place. Let’s invite a few friends and family and renew our vows there.
Mina: Yeah…okay.
Adwin surprises Mina by pulling her into his arms once again, only this time he dips her and kisses her soft and slow.

The kissing lasts for a while, but they eventually make their way outside.
Adwin: I have an idea.
Mina: You’re full of them tonight aren’t you?
Adwin: *chuckles* Let’s text Ajay and see if he’s willing to camp out with the twins all night.
Mina: Why?
Adwin: Because I’m not ready to stop celebrating Love Day yet…and what I have in mind requires a big empty house and a lack of clothes.
Mina: *giggles*
