After showering and getting dressed for the day, I’m in the bathroom fixing the toilet when I get a call from Kimmie.
Kimmie: *on the phone* It’s done, Peri! I can’t wait for you to see it.
It seems that today is moving day!
I immediately go in to tell Kai.
Prosperity: *knocks on Kai’s door* I have good news!
Kai: Come in…
I enter Kai’s bedroom. Kai is still in his pajamas, eating breakfast. But I’m glad to see that he’s up on time for school, despite his late night out yesterday.
Prosperity: Have you packed up all your stuff?
Kai: Yes. It’s in a box in the dining room.
Prosperity: Good! We’re moving into our new house today.
Giving Kai this news makes me glad that we’re moving close. He doesn’t have to change schools or anything.
After Kai has left for school, I go downstairs to give daddy the news. I find him outside, eating his breakfast as well.
Prosperity: It’s done! The house is complete, and we can move in today.
Quincy: Already? *doubtful* That place still needed so much work.
Prosperity: Yeah, but Kimmie is a miracle worker. We can go and see it after you finish eating.
I step away to give daddy some time to finish up and take a few last looks around, happy to be officially saying goodbye to this era of my life. It’s time to move on, and I couldn’t be more ready!
Daddy and I meet Kimmie in Windenburg an hour later. We walk up to the place together.
Kimmie: We spent the entire night completing the place, but I’m pleased with it, and I hope you will be too.
I can already see that the outside has been dramatically transformed. The trash is gone, and the place looks more like home.
Quincy: *impressed* Okay, so far, so good!
Kimmie: I have a few things I want to double-check in the backyard. I’ll give you two a moment to take in the inside alone. See you in a few… *walks to the back of the house*
Daddy and I enter and turn to the kitchen first, and I love everything about it. Kimmie managed to give it a very modern, industrial look. I almost can’t wait to start cooking in it.
Prosperity: *sharp intake of breath* It’s incredible!
Quincy: It’s your vision realized. You wanted this, and you made it happen. I’m proud of you!
Prosperity: Thanks, daddy.
We pass the dining area and enter the living room. It’s like Kimmie was able to see the picture in my head and did everything I wanted. The colors are bright and airy, immediately putting me in a good mood.
Prosperity: I can’t wait to host parties here. I’ve never thrown a party before. Can you believe that?
Quincy: Well, now you can – as many as you want.
Kimmie returns to show us the upstairs. She leads us to my bedroom. I step in and immediately want to cry happy tears.
Prosperity: It’s amazing! I just want to take everything off and get naked in here.
Quincy: *clears his throat* Not exactly what your dad wants to hear, but I get it. It’s beautiful.
Kimmie: I’m glad you like it.
The backyard and guest house are next.
Kimmie: Okay, Mr. Q – we’re heading to your domain next.
Prosperity: Are you ready, daddy?
Quincy: I’m not sure, but if I don’t like it – I’ll just sleep here in the backyard. It has everything I would need.
Kimmie: *chuckles* I’ll take that as a compliment.
Q steps into the guest house first.
Quincy: Wow! This cannot be the same place. There’s no way!
Daddy’s place is perfect. I immediately pull Kimmie into a hug.
Prosperity: *emotional* This is your magnum opus, Kimmie! I love it so much.
Kimmie: *sniffles* I couldn’t have done this for a better group of people. I wanted to capture everything great about you and your family with this design.
Prosperity: Aww! Well, if this is how you see us, then you’re a friend for life!
Kimmie: I’m honored. There are a few more surprises that I’ll let you all discover on your own. I need to get home. I’m exhausted.
After Peri and Kimmie leave the guest house, Q gets to work unpacking the few personal items he couldn’t live without. He’s glad he took the time to return to Oasis Springs yesterday to get them. He barely manages to hold back tears, and he places Alida’s old bubble bottle on the shelf next to the sofa. It’s something that she almost always had with her, and now it’ll always be with him as well.
He has a box full of hundreds of photos taken over the years. Q slowly goes through them and pulls out his favorites, and hangs them on the wall.
Quincy: *to Alida’s portrait* Now you’ll always be with me, ma!
