Waddell stops by during his lunch break to get a sneak peek at the completed house. I’m glad he did, and I show him with a long lingering kiss.

I lead him inside.

Waddell: I can’t stay long.

Prosperity: Then we’ll go straight to my favorite part of the house.

I’d love to show him the bedroom, but he can’t stay long, so we go up to my new art studio instead.

Waddell: You’re guaranteed to get a lot of work done in here.

Prosperity: I know. And I’d like you to be my first piece. So stay just like that for a moment.

I place a new canvas, grab my brush and get to work – knowing that I don’t have much time.

Kai arrives home from school and snaps a “new house” selfie. He walks inside and is just as impressed as his mom and Pop-pop when they walked through earlier. He goes straight up to his bedroom and is floored by the transformation.

Kai isn’t sure he’d want to stay in the dorms when he goes to college with a room like this. Speaking of college, it’s time for Kai to check his application status to see if he’s gotten in. A few clicks later, he sees that he’s been accepted into both Foxbury and Britechester. But only Foxbury has offered him admittance into a distinguished degree – in Biology! That puts a smile on his face.

Waddell stays long enough for me to get a good start on his portrait. A few hours later, it’s a completed masterpiece. I hang it on my wall with a few other select pieces.

Daddy is outside grilling when I come downstairs to check in on him.

Prosperity: You decided to cook?

Daddy comes over and sits down at the bar next to me.

Quincy: I couldn’t resist when I saw this set-up. This is the type of backyard your ma and I would have loved to have.

Prosperity: Yeah, but it’s way too hot to grill in Oasis Springs.

Quincy: Not in the Fall and Winter.

Prosperity: True, but isn’t summer barbeque season?

Quincy: Anytime is a good time for barbeque.

Prosperity: I was wondering –

Quincy: About what?

Prosperity: Have you ever thought about dating again?

Quincy: We just buried your mother…

Prosperity: Well, maybe not right away, but eventually.

Quincy: No one could ever replace her, Peri.

Prosperity: I know. I just don’t want you to be lonely.

Quincy: Isn’t that why you asked me to live with you? So I won’t be lonely?

Prosperity: You know what kind of lonely I’m talking about, daddy. Do you want me to spell it out?

Quincy: No. You’ve spelled out enough. *gets up* I’m going for a swim.

Prosperity: But it’s freezing out here.

Quincy: Maybe these old bones could use a bit of chill.

Prosperity: *warning tone* Okay, daddy.

Q steps up on the diving board and takes a deep breath before doing a perfect backflip into the water. Once he’s submerged, he realizes his mistake. Q has read about some of the benefits of swimming in cold water, but it’s an intense shock to his system. This is not something he intends to do regularly…or ever again.
