Peri and Mase arrive at the art center. Peri’s friend Kimmie is there to greet them. She and Peri are still honoring their agreement to meet at least once weekly.
Prosperity: *to Kimmie* This is my grandson, Mason. Today is his birthday. *to Mason* Mason, this is my good friend, Miss Kimmie.
Mason: *waves* Hi, Miss Kimmie! It’s nice to meet you.
Kimmie: Hi, Mason. Happy birthday! You look so much like your father.
Mason: You know my daddy?
Kimmie: I didn’t know him at your age, but I met him when he was a teenager.
Mason: Oh
Peri leads the way inside. After a quick check-in with Kimmie over coffee, she has a mural she wants to work on near the fountain outside. Meanwhile, Mase enters and makes a beeline to the children’s art area. But he’s not attracted to the paints and crafting material; he’s more interested in sculpting using clay.
Peri starts her mural by laying out the base in all white. Once that’s done, she’ll begin the outline for the mural. Inside, Mase ends up creating a big star with the clay.
Once he’s bored with sculpting, he finds his gran Peri, who tells him about a secret room with board games, video game consoles, and a TV. Mase is excited to learn about this room that is off-limits to the general public. It is reserved only for family and friends. Mase is sure he’ll be spending a lot of time here.
But even TV doesn’t hold Mase’s attention. He’s soon bored of being alone and goes to find his gran once again. He finds her working on the general outline of her mural.
Mason: I like it, gran!
Prosperity: Thank you! There’s not much to it yet, but I appreciate the compliment.
Mase sits down at the bar to wait for Peri to stop working. She’s been around her grandchildren long enough to get the hint.
Prosperity: How about we stop for a little snack?
Mason: Yes!
Peri sits down at the bar next to Mase.
Prosperity: So what are we in the mood for? Fries, chips, or olives?
Mason: Fries with lots of ketchup!
Peri orders the fries while Mase chats with Aurore, one of Peri’s art students. Peri realizes that Kimmie is correct, but not only does Mase look like Kai – he’s every bit as charming as Kai was at this age. It’s almost like having Kai back as a child once again. Being around Mase brings back so many memories.
She and Mase grab their plates and move to a table to eat their afternoon snack.
I’m in charge of baby Drake while Me-Me is at work and ma is at the art center with Mase. Luckily, he enjoys long naps, giving me enough time to beat the previous climbing endurance challenge on the climbing treadmill. So I decide to call up Mo to continue our training in preparation for our trip up Mt. Komo.
Mo arrives within the hour with his daughter Perla.
Maurice: Are you coming, Lil Bit? I’m sure there will be someone for you to play with while I train.
Mo and Perla enter the house, and sure enough, Dub has arrived home from school and is sitting on the couch watching TV.
Mo makes sure that Perla is settled on the couch before he heads outside. Dub suddenly feels a little shy, so it’s up to Perla to break the ice. She slides closer to him and introduces herself.
Perla: Hi! I’m Perla.
Wade: *waves* Hi. I’m Wade.
Perla: Is Mason here? I played with him last time I was here.
Wade: No, he’s out with my granny, but you can watch TV with me.
Mo makes his way over, and I give him the first chance to try for a new endurance challenge record while I tend to baby Dray.
Inside, it doesn’t take long for Dub and Perla to discover that they have much to talk about.
Perla: *excited* You like the Peter Barker series too? My mom and dad used to read them to me when I was little, but now I’m big enough to read them all by myself!
Wade: They’re my favorite! I hope they make them into a movie.
Perla: Me too! I’ll tell my dad to take me to see it if they do.
Wade: Maybe we can see it together.
Perla: Yeah, okay
