Reminder: This is my very first Sims 4 family, which was originally posted starting in 2015. I’m in the process of moving these posts over from my Tumblr page. See more info here!

Marvel finds his way into Ajay’s bedroom just as Opus did the night before. Ajay, for the life of him, can’t figure out why they both insist on coming to him rather than their parents. He wonders if somehow they sense that he’ll be moving out today.
Marvel: *in tears* Apple monster** coming to get me!
Adwin-Jamie: Apple monster? I think you just had a bad dream.
Marvel: Apple monster eats me up.
Adwin-Jamie: *walks over and gives Marv a hug* I won’t let the monster get you. I promise!
(**Based on a real dream my daughter had when she was small – lol)

After a few more hugs and some reassurances, Ajay is eventually able to get Marv back in his bed. It’s not early enough to go back to sleep, so Ajay heads downstairs for breakfast.
(Note: The new patch doors allowed me to finally make space for Jamison’s old piano** (link takes you to Tumblr) ! I’m happy that Adwin was able to keep such special mementos from his parents. The new ceiling fans are great too!)

Ajay eats some of Mina’s leftover Butternut Gnocchi for breakfast. Once again, he’s intrigued by her vegetarian diet and impressed at the good meals she’s able to put together without meat.
After eating, Ajay puts in his new earbuds and decides to go for a jog.

Ajay passes Father Winter while on his jog. It wouldn’t be strange, except that it’s now Spring and Winterfest was over days ago. He guesses that Father Winter is just putting in a bit of overtime…or living by his own rules just as Ajay hopes to do.
Speaking of living by his own rules, Ajay decides not to put off moving any longer. He heads to his new lot and decides that now is the time to officially move in. He completes his workout on the heavy bag that he has set up there.

Ajay punches the heavy bag until he has successfully raised his fitness level. He’s proud of his lot and the fact that except for one pipe that connects to a sink in the corner…he’ll be living completely off the grid. His shower is portable and has a water bag that he’ll have to fill up when he’s ready to wash off and every light on the lot is either a candle, an oil lamp or solar powered.
In addition to that…all of the furniture on the lot is secondhand. He spent some of the time that he was away yesterday raiding a few garage sales, both in person and online, and visiting a second-hand store to get chairs and tables for his lot. He also claimed some of the old furniture that his father had stored away. He quickly realized that people throw away a lot of useful stuff.
After his workout, Ajay walks over to his sink and gets himself a glass of water.

Carla stops by, just as she promised, on her way back home to Windenburg. She greets Ajay with a hug. After the hug, she takes a quick look around.
Carla: So…this is where you’ll be living? What are you going to do for shelter?
Adwin-Jamie: I have my tent.
Carla: You do realize that it gets cold in Brindleton Bay, right? And there’s rain and thunderstorms?
Adwin-Jamie: If I survived Granite Falls…I can survive the weather here, mom. And the beauty of it all is that if it gets too bad…I can just pack up my tent and temporarily set it up where it’s warmer…like Oasis Springs.
Carla realizes that she’s made some unpopular choices in her life, but even she thinks that Ajay’s plan of basically living outdoors is a bit out there. She also knows that she’d never change his mind about it, so she doesn’t try to convince him of anything.

Adwin-Jamie: *tries to change the subject* How’s Papa Dex?
Carla: Better. Speaking of Dex…he sent something for you – it’s a fruitcake. Since mom died he’s been drowning in all the food that people insist on bringing over for him. So he sent it with me. Want to try it?
Adwin-Jamie: Yeah…sure
Carla and Ajay head towards Ajay’s makeshift kitchen.
Carla: *walking towards the table* Has your dad seen this yet?
Adwin-Jamie: My lot? No, not yet.
Carla: *begins to laugh* Oh my goodness!
Adwin-Jamie: What’s so funny?
Carla: When he sees where you’ll be living…he’s going to have a fit!
Ajay knows she’s right, but it’s not like he didn’t already know that. Carla cuts the fruitcake and they both sit down to eat a slice.

Carla: So…is this ‘tent living’ thing a part of the belief system that you were telling me about?
Adwin-Jamie: In a way. I mean…if we are living for someone else’s benefit…why not try to control the things we can control? Why not live the way we want to? I have very few expenses living like this, mom. I can make money off the land. I answer to no one! I chose this because I want to be free.
Carla: Or maybe this is in – whoever controls all this…maybe it’s in their plan too?
Adwin-Jamie: If it is…it’s the one thing I’m actually happy with. Maybe things are finally going my way.
Carla: Maybe son…I just want you to be happy. And if being here… *pauses* like this – is what makes you happy, then good! Just know that a whole lot of people will find it strange….including your father.

Adwin-Jamie: *pointedly* People have called me strange my whole life. I’ve learned to be okay with that.
Carla: That’s all you can really do – I suppose.
Carla gets up and walks over to Ajay’s firepit. Ajay sits for a while, feeling a bit queasy. The fruitcake didn’t exactly agree with his stomach. After it’s settled a bit, he walks over to his sink and shower to wash up and change out of his workout clothes.

Feeling refreshed after his shower, Ajay walks over and joins Carla by the fire.
Carla: *stands up and hugs him* I have to go. I have work early in the morning.
Adwin-Jamie: Bye mom!
Carla: Bye son…I wish you well. Good luck…you’re going to need it – especially when it comes to dealing with your father.
Adwin-Jamie: I know, but don’t worry. Everything will be fine.
Carla turns and leaves to start the 3-hour trip back to Windenburg.
