Wallace Family – Day 6.7 (Part 3)

Spread the love

Reminder: This is my very first Sims 4 family, which was originally posted starting in 2015. I’m in the process of moving these posts over from my Tumblr page. See more info here!

The song is over, but the lyrics remind them of the friendship that the two of them once had. Missing that friendship lingers long after the words have been sung. They spend a few moments mourning and longing for the closeness that they once shared.

Carla is the first to break them out of their painfully nostalgic mood.

Carla: Your voice isn’t bad. I don’t remember ever hearing you sing before.

Adwin: That’s because I don’t.

Carla: Not ever?

Adwin: No

Carla: Not even in the shower?

Adwin: Especially not in the shower because you never know when someone might sneak up and hear you!

Carla: That’s a shame.

Adwin: *changes the subject* So…what’s next?

Carla: Do you play darts?

Carla grabs two darts and lines up her shot. She gets a bullseye the very first time. Adwin tries to act like he’s not impressed.

Adwin: *chuckles* Beginner’s luck!

Carla: Who says I’m a beginner? What you just witnessed was skill…pure skill.

Adwin: Bet I can still beat you though. *steps up to take his turn*

Carla: Don’t hurt yourself trying.

Carla’s words are like a curse. Adwin attempts to throw the dart forward, but somehow it flies out of his hand and lands behind him.

Carla: *teasing tone* You know the goal is to at least hit the board, right?

Adwin looks around to find the AWOL dart.

Adwin: What the-? Where did it go?

Adwin: *angry about his missed shot* Dammit!

Carla steps up to take another turn, but Adwin turns and walks away…distracted by the music coming out of the jukebox.

Adwin: This is my jam! *begins to dance*

Carla walks up and watches him for a few moments before making fun of his moves.

Carla: Ha! You never could dance!

Adwin: What are you talking ‘bout, girl? I gets it in!

Carla: *steps on the dance floor* Do you know how to do that line dance that everyone is doing? I think it’s the One, Two, Stepin’?

Adwin: You mean the one that’s on every wedding dance video on Simtube?

Carla: Yeah…it goes like *begins to dance* side step, side step…cross. Dip down, dip down…shake it!

Adwin watches her a few times, then joins in.

Out of breath after doing the line dance with Carla through the next two songs.

Adwin: *proud* See…I told you that I gets it in.

Carla: *ignoring Adwin’s bragging* Look…the bartender is finally here. You think she’ll notice that we helped ourselves to a drink?

Adwin: *looks back at the bartender* Even if she does…she won’t know it was us. *turns back to Carla* Anyway, if you admit that I can get down…I’ll buy you one drink!

Carla: I’d say it, but it’ll be as shameful as passing along fake news on social media.

Adwin: Very funny! Come on…just admit it. You only have to say it once.

Carla: Okay…okay. *in an exaggerated fan girl voice* Oh Mr. O’Neal…you’re the best dancer in the whole wide world!

Adwin doesn’t care that Carla is teasing him again. He’s just happy to hear the words come out of her mouth. He leads her to the bar to order the drink that he promised.

Adwin: *reflects on the evening* This was fun…it beats sitting around bored in my room.

That gives Carla an idea.

Carla: Ohhh! You should let me show you around while you’re here. Let me take you to the bluffs! You can’t visit Windenburg without at least seeing it.

Adwin: I don’t know…my twin sons age up tomorrow – and I already feel bad about missing their birthday. I don’t know if I should be out having fun on a day that’s supposed to be about them.

It’s the first time Adwin has mentioned his family since they’ve been there. That fact stands out to Carla like a psychedelic sheep in an all-white room.

The bartender has almost finished preparing the drinks. Carla stands up to grab hers.

Carla: Please…it doesn’t have to be fun. You can go up there and take some nice pictures of it to show them. They’d love that.

The bartender places their drinks on the bar. Adwin grabs his drink and takes a long sip. This drink combined with the first one is starting to get to his head. He can feel himself beginning to go down a road that he knows he shouldn’t be on. Carla standing there looking just as gorgeous as she’s ever looked, pleading, doesn’t help at all.

Adwin stands; leaving the glass full of liquid temptation there on the bar.

Adwin: No…I’d better just focus on work while I’m here, but I appreciate the offer. I…I’d better go.

Carla sits down quickly as if she’s been pushed down by his rejection.

Carla: Okay…I guess I’ll see you next time I see you. *takes a big sip of her own drink*

Adwin doesn’t respond. He quickens his pace and hurries to leave the bar. Carla sits there alone trying to make sense of his sudden need to hurry out of the room.

Adwin doesn’t slow down until he’s safe in his room. He sits down on the ottoman at the end of the bed wondering if he overreacted. He’s not sure if Carla was just offering an innocent friendship…or more. All he knows is that he’s not in the right frame of mind to try and find out. Still…there’s no denying that hanging out with her – talking to her felt as natural as it did when they were kids. The feeling leaves him confused…and there’s some guilt associated with it – as if he’s doing something wrong.

Adwin changes into his bedclothes and crawls into bed. He reminds himself that he’s here to get a job done…so that’s what he tells himself he’s going to do. But the thought of work is not what puts a big smile on his face as he begins to drift off to sleep.
